Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gennady Maksimushkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Burns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gennady Maksimushkin!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Burns shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Burns showed some decent athleticism there.
Burns is looking to take a break and control but Maksimushkin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Burns prevents Maksimushkin from standing back up.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Burns wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maksimushkin keeps working.
Maksimushkin wants to control but Burns is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Maksimushkin controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

Maksimushkin pushes Burns off looking to stand but Burns dives back in and keeps control.

Burns seems to be working for a kimura but Maksimushkin defends the submission attempt.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Maksimushkin tries to kick Burns off but Burns keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Maksimushkin shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Burns as he jumps to the side.

Maksimushkin slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Maksimushkin controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Maksimushkin gets tackled into the ropes by Burns. Burns maintains the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Burns scores with a knee to the head.
A head punch on the inside from Burns fails to land.

Maksimushkin is fighting off a takedown attempt but Burns is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Maksimushkin to the mat. Maksimushkin regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Burns gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Maksimushkin keeping moving, preventing Burns from controlling successfully.
Maksimushkin has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
James Burns overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Burns changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Maksimushkin looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Burns tries to move to mount but Maksimushkin blocks the move with his legs.
Maksimushkin is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Burns off and has taken his back!

Maksimushkin is controlling the position but Burns somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.
Burns is trying to stand up here but Maksimushkin is controlling him well.
Maksimushkin is taking a breather. Burns says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Burns regains full guard. Nicely done.
Maksimushkin wants to stand but Burns is controlling his posture from full guard.
Maksimushkin prevents Burns from getting back to his feet.
Maksimushkin would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

and Burns takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Burns closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Maksimushkin tries a head kick but it misses.
Nice sprawl there from Burns as Maksimushkin shoots in.

and Maksimushkin counters with a series of strikes. Burns will be more careful next time no doubt.

Maksimushkin closes the distance and clinches up with Burns, looking for a takedown. Maksimushkin pushes Burns against the ropes but Burns circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
James Burns has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gennady Maksimushkin.

Burns is working Maksimushkin over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Maksimushkin shoots in for a takedown but Burns shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Burns tries to counter with a takedown but Maksimushkin is quick to defend against it.
Maksimushkin throws a right hand that Burns ducks under and follows up with a left that Burns also avoids with ease.

Burns winds up and cracks Maksimushkin with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Burns wants to take a breather but Maksimushkin is having none of it.

James Burns is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Burns, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
