PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Adrian Stokes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nihat Jack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nihat Jack told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Adrian Stokes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nihat Jack!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Lou da Vinci and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jack drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Jack sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Jack works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Jack is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Stokes!
Stokes is trying to stand up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jack tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Stokes is squirming around, avoiding Jack's attempts to control the action.
Jack controlling the pace for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stokes is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Jack scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Stokes?
Stokes can't escape the position.

Jack stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Jack closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Stokes gets back to full guard.

Stokes throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stokes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jack is aware though and is defending well.

Stokes is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Jack is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Stokes keeping moving, preventing Jack from controlling successfully.

Jack tries to free his leg and advance position but Stokes is retaining full guard.

Stokes is looking for a triangle but Jack pushes his legs off easily.
Stokes is breathing heavily.
Stokes throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Jack showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Jack trying to control but Stokes is working from the bottom.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Jack is pushing down on Stokes's leg trying to pass to half guard. Stokes is fighting to maintain full guard but Jack has managed to sneak the leg through.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jack in particular looking to stall.
Jack looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Stokes with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Jack passes the guard and advances to mount!
Stokes working to try and regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nihat Jack dominated that round.
That's time! Stokes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Stokes fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Jack must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jack stands up and waves to Stokes to follow him.

and Stokes counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Stokes trying to control the position from guard on top but Jack is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jack has Stokes pulled in close to control his posture.

Jack is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Jack is pulling down on Stokes's head. It's preventing any offense from Stokes, at least for the moment.

Jack escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stokes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jack is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Jack darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Stokes looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Stokes gets back to full guard.

Stokes has his feet on Jack's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Nihat Jack is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Stokes misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Jack throws a counter combo.

Jack closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Stokes is trying to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Stokes tries to escape but Jack is in control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nihat Jack showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Jack is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Stokes keeping full guard, as Jack tries to pass.

Jack looking to sit in guard and control but Stokes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Stokes with a flurry of punches that miss.
Jack wants to stand up but Stokes is controlling him.

Jack looking to hit a scissor sweep but Stokes is one step ahead there.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Jack steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Stokes.

Jack moves into the clinch.

Jack gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Jack not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Jack passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Jack lands some shots froms side control.

Stokes is working hard here to advance position.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee asks Jack politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Jack prefers to stall for the moment though.
Stokes manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Jack tries to pass to full mount but Stokes defends it.
Jack has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Jack is taking a breather. Stokes says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Adrian Stokes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Nihat Jack is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Nihat Jack comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jack has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
