Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Natty Light (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andre Karanov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Natty Light!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andre Karanov!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Valeri Chadov and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karanov shoots in and gets a takedown into Light's guard.
Light wants to stand and escape but Karanov is having none of it.
Light working a defensive guard but Karanov passes into half guard.
Light is trying to control but can't.
Karanov stalling.
Light is looking for a sweep. Karanov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Karanov wants to pass the guard but Light is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Light trying to hold on to Karanov's head to control him but Karanov postures up.
Karanov stops Light from getting back to his feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Karanov gets a takedown into half guard.
Karanov prevents Light from improving his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Light wants to control but Karanov is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Light manages to get to full guard.
Light is trying to control the position but Karanov postures up.
Light looking to hit a scissor sweep but Karanov is one step ahead there.

Light looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Karanov trying to stand up but can't free himself from Light's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Light looking for a sweep. Not yet Light, not yet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
No luck for Light with that takedown attempt.

Karanov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Karanov is looking to pass into half guard but Light pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Light is in guard.

Light looking to sit in guard and control but Karanov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Light is looking to stand up but Karanov isn't so interested in that idea.
Karanov content to stall in guard here.
Karanov wants to pass the guard but Light is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Karanov connects with a nice looking jab.
Karanov throws a right and a left that Light avoids nicely.

Karanov shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Karanov has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Light trying to control but Karanov postures up.
Karanov is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Light is trying to control but can't.

Light tries to roll over but Karanov keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Karanov stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Karanov.
Andre Karanov has got the better of the ground game so far.
Light can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Karanov is looking to take a break and control but Light is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Karanov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Light keeps working.
Karanov tries to move into full mount but can't pass Light's legs.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Karanov wants to stand but Light is controlling his arm.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Karanov has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Light is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Light keeping full guard, as Karanov tries to pass.

Karanov won't allow Light to sweep him here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Karanov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Light manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Karanov manages to get himself to full guard.

Light trying to control the position from guard on top but Karanov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Light is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andre Karanov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Light throws a sloppy head kick and Karanov moves out of range easily.
Nice sprawl there from Light as Karanov shoots in.
Light fails to land the takedown.

Karanov closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Light's guard.
Light wants to stand but Karanov is controlling the position.

Light throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Karanov stands and steps away. Light gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Karanov misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Karanov dives in and scores a takedown into Light's guard.
Light thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Karanov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Light swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Karanov drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Light dives on top into guard.

Karanov wants to stand and escape but Light is having none of it.
Light postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Karanov tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Light tries to free his leg and advance position but Karanov is retaining full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Karanov can do anything to dispel that myth.
Light throws a big elbow that misses.
Karanov wants to sweep but no luck.
Light trying to control the position from guard on top but Karanov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Light changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Karanov tries to avoid it but Light manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Karanov to the ground. Karanov escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Light closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Karanov did well to prevent Light getting side control.
Light is keen to just control but Karanov is a slippery customer.
Karanov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Light. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Light is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Karanov is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Karanov pushes Light off looking to stand but Light dives back in and keeps control.

Light seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Karanov does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Light shoots for a takedown but Karanov saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Natty Light. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Light moves into the clinch successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Light manages to break the clinch.

Karanov throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Light was covering up waiting for the punch and Karanov finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Light is trying to keep Karanov in close.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Andre Karanov.
I've got Karanov winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
