Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Abbate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joey Chips (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joey Chips struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 207.6lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Joey Chips will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Abbate! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joey Chips! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Abbate tries to clinch but Chips moves out of range. Chips looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! The fight stays on the outside here - Abbate looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Abbate throws a series of punches but Chips moves out of range. Abbate blocks a head kick by Chips.
Abbate is looking to clinch but Chips is avoiding it.
Chips takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Abbate lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Chips circles away quickly and effectively. Abbate closes the distance and clinches. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Abbate breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Abbate fails in his attempt to clinch. Abbate shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Chips with a lazy takedown attempt and Abbate counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Abbate.
That's one minute gone in the round. Abbate can't get the takedown.
Abbate is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Abbate. That's going to take a lot out of him. Chips tries to break the clinch but Abbate is controlling the position. Abbate jumps guard and drags Chips to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Abbate is trying to control the position but Chips postures up. Abbate had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Chips is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Abbate Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Chips's back instead. Chips wants to get back to his feet. Chips is trying to defend against the choke here but Abbate has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Abbate Tightens the hold and Chips taps out furiously! Abbate displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Nick Abbate!
