Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Filippo Di Vaio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Damian Nitschke!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Skip Squint and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Di Vaio throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Damian Nitschke has been cut.
Nitschke turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
A head kick misses from Nitschke.
Nitschke displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Di Vaio.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Di Vaio.
Di Vaio slips under a jab.
Nitschke misses with a series of wild punches.
A counter left hand to the body from Di Vaio misses its target.
Nitschke drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Di Vaio tests Nitschke's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Nitschke throws a half hearted mid kick.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Di Vaio.
Filippo Di Vaio seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Di Vaio scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Di Vaio fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Filippo Di Vaio. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Di Vaio throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Nitschke was covering up waiting for the punch and Di Vaio finishes the takedown easily into guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nitschke is on top in guard.


Di Vaio working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nitschke doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nitschke manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Nitschke got a little sloppy there for a moment and Di Vaio has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nitschke has managed to get both his arms back between Di Vaio's legs - danger averted.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nitschke chips away with some ground and pound.

Di Vaio escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nitschke gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Nitschke is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Nitschke postures up and lands a big shot to Di Vaio's brow.
Di Vaio seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Di Vaio had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Nitschke defends it easily.

Nitschke throws a big right hand that misses.
Di Vaio wants to control but Nitschke passes easily into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Di Vaio works his way to full guard. Good work.

Nitschke throws a sloppy strike and Di Vaio has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Nitschke is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Di Vaio!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Filippo Di Vaio!
Our winner, Filippo Di Vaio, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
