Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dusty Martin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 21 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Hamish Gaffney! The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Summer Carpenter and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown attempt by Gaffney or perhaps it was just good defense by Martin, which made it look bad. Gaffney shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Martin as he jumps to the side. Gaffney shoots for a double leg takedown but Martin sprawls well. He's pushed Gaffney's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Dusty Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hamish Gaffney. Gaffney fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. A nice inside leg kick there by Martin. That's going to slow Gaffney down. Gaffney shoots in for a double leg but Martin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Martin seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Gaffney tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Martin looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger. Martin lands a nice looking kick to the body. Gaffney takes a step back to recover. Gaffney has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Martin tries to clinch but Gaffney moves out of range. Gaffney stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Martin. Martin gets caught flat footed, as Gaffney shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Martin has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Martin is looking for a triangle but Gaffney pushes his legs off easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Martin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gaffney manages to get himself to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gaffney keeping moving, preventing Martin from controlling successfully. Martin throws a big elbow that misses. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gaffney is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Martin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Martin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Martin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gaffney is one step ahead there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Martin is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Gaffney looking to pass the guard. Martin looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Gaffney wants to pass the guard but Martin is keeping the position. Gaffney gets to his feet. Martin looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
That's three minutes gone in the round. That kick from Martin tenderised Gaffney's leg. Gaffney is trying to keep his angry face on. Martin scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Martin blocks a head kick by Gaffney.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Martin. Martin tries to sprawl but Gaffney drives through with a takedown into half guard. Gaffney is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Martin reverses the position - he's now on top in Gaffney's guard. Martin trying to control the position from guard on top but Gaffney is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Gaffney has his foot on Martin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Martin works his way back into a safe position though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Martin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gaffney is keeping the position for now. Gaffney striking off his back but it's not causing Martin any problems. Gaffney manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Martin manages to get himself to full guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Dusty Martin will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
A telegraphed right hand from Gaffney misses the target. Martin throws a body kick that misses. Martin ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Martin wants to clinch. Nice sprawl there from Martin as Gaffney shoots in. Martin tries to counter by clinching up but Gaffney breaks away and moves out of range. Martin blocks a head kick by Gaffney.
Hamish Gaffney is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Gaffney fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Gaffney misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Martin counters with a stiff right hand. Gaffney avoids a low kick by using good footwork. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Martin. Gaffney shrugs it off though. Martin showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Gaffney.

Gaffney throws a nice looking combination but Martin bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gaffney blocks a leg kick. Gaffney on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Martin feints and then cracks Gaffney's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gaffney down. Martin scores with a jab. Gaffney throws a hook to the side of Martin's head but Martin sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Martin throws the kick towards the body but Gaffney avoids it. Gaffney pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Gaffney throws a right and a left that both miss. Martin connects with a solid leg kick. Gaffney shoots in but Martin avoids the takedown attempt easily. Dusty Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hamish Gaffney. Martin lands with a thumping leg kick.
Gaffney shoots in for a double leg but Martin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Martin, as that shot connected.
Dusty Martin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Martin dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Gaffney is breathing heavily. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Martin getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Martin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gaffney can do to turn this around? Martin connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Gaffney takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Gaffney is rocked! Donk. Martin catches Gaffney right on the button with a cross. Gaffney is still on wobbly legs! Can Martin finish him? Martin cracks Gaffney with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Gaffney tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Martin pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Gaffney is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dusty Martin! After winning the bout, Dusty Martin thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
