Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Nikel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Charlie Wade!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Summer Carpenter and Ron Honeybunn.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wade gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Nikel wants to control from the top but Wade keeps moving.
Wade working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nikel doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nikel manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Nikel's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Nikel trying to control the position from guard on top but Wade is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Nikel working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Wade's head.
Nikel pushes down on Wade's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Wade actively working from the bottom here.
Nikel is nestled in close to Wade, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nikel passes the guard and advances to mount!
Nikel with shots to the head and body - Wade looks very uncomfortable down there.
Wade wants to get back to his feet.
Nikel connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Wade is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Nikel pulls his head out easily.

Nikel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Nikel connects with a nice short shot to Wade's temple.
Nikel uses his free foot to push down on Wade's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Wade.

Wade is working to get back to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wade is in all sorts of trouble here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nikel connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Wade really wants to buck Nikel off and get back to his feet.
Nikel scoring with strikes but Wade is staying in there.

A big strike lands for Nikel! That's really hurt Wade and he's turned his back - Nikel keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Nikel jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
