The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McDonald doesn't manage to clinch there - Williams circles away.
Williams appears to be looking for a counter takedown. McDonald throws a combination. Williams tries to block but a couple of punches get through. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from McDonald. McDonald scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. You can see the frustration on Williams's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Williams's coaches at Cylon Training Academy have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position. That's one minute gone in the round. McDonald seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Williams does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. McDonald prevents Williams from improving his position. Williams avoiding damage under a succession of punches from McDonald. McDonald passes the guard and advances to mount! Williams might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. McDonald wants to take Williams's back but he can't do it this time. Williams is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McDonald with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
