PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Don Macias (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adao Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Adao Santos is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Don Macias!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Adao Santos!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Alexandre Firmino and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Macias defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Santos.
Santos throws a head kick that looked like it stung.


It looks like Don Macias has been cut.

Macias gets caught flat footed, as Santos shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Santos stands and steps away. Macias gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Santos throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Macias's waist but Macias gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Santos off to one side.

Macias tries to keep at a distance but Santos has taken the fight into the clinch.

Macias manages to break the clinch.
Macias looks to land a combination but Santos avoids it well.
Macias displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Santos.
Don Macias has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adao Santos.

Santos tries for a takedown but Macias circles away easily
and Macias counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Santos thinking.

Santos is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Macias's half guard.
Santos is trying to control the action in half guard but Macias is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Macias is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Macias is concentrating on defense, preventing Santos from advancing position.

Macias has his hands clasped together around Santos's back. He's all about the action.
Macias really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Santos scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Santos tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Macias.
Santos prevents Macias from improving his position.

Santos stands up and beckons Macias to join him on the feet.
Santos goes for a double leg but Macias avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Macias continues to drive forward.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Santos closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Macias's guard.
Santos is fighting to break Macias's control of his arms but Macias is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Santos is stalling in the full guard.

Macias escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Santos gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Santos scoring with punches to the head and body.

Santos is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Macias looking for a sweep. Not yet Macias, not yet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Santos shoots in for a double leg but Macias sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
It looked like Macias was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Santos.
Santos closes the distance and clinches up with Macias, looking for a takedown. Santos pushes Macias against the cage but Macias circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
It looked like Macias was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adao Santos dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Don Macias's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Macias throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Macias tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Santos manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Santos rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Macias counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Santos thinking.
Santos shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Macias pinned against the cage. Macias gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Macias swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Santos darts in looking for a takedown but Macias gets double underhooks and turns Santos into the cage.
Santos tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Macias defends well and Santos ends up having to push Macias into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Don Macias has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adao Santos.
Santos swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Macias throws a big counter combination but Santos scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Santos tries a head kick but it misses.

Santos has taken the fight to the clinch.

Santos breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Santos shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Macias defends it nicely.
Santos is breathing heavily.

and Macias moves into the clinch.
Macias fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Santos's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Santos closes the distance and pushes Macias back into the cage.

Santos manages to break the clinch.

Santos instigates a clinch.
Santos has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Santos is trying to push Macias away but Macias has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Macias tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Santos just stands there and leans against the cage.
Santos is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Santos jumps into guard, dragging Macias to the mat.

Santos working for a triangle but Macias defends it easily.
Santos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Macias looking to sit in guard and control but Santos gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Santos trying to control the position from guard on top but Macias is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Macias seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Santos in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Macias avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Macias will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Santos looking to pass the guard.
Santos wants to control from the top but Macias keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Santos lands a left and a right that send Macias crashing to the mat, dazed. Santos thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Macias is rocked!

Santos gets a clinch.

Santos pulls guard successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adao Santos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Santos shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Macias as he jumps to the side.

Macias tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Santos was well out of range. Poor timing from Macias.

Santos tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Macias just stands there and leans against the cage.
Macias is trying to pull guard but Santos turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Santos is trying to drag Macias to the mat but Macias just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Macias's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Macias rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Santos moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Don Macias is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Santos takes the fight into the clinch.
Macias jumps guard but Santos stands there with Macias around his waist. Macias gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Macias drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Santos gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Santos pulls Macias into guard.
Macias stopping the sweep attempt from Santos.
Santos keeps trying to improve his position.
Macias knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Santos on the ground.
Macias has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Santos is proving hard to escape from.
Santos is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Santos is pressing down on Macias's thigh, looking to free his foot. Macias is holding on for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Santos frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Santos has hold of Macias's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Macias manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Santos wants to take Macias's back here but Macias is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Santos breaks from Macias's wrist control and lands an elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Macias is looking to improve his position but Santos isn't that keen on the idea.

Santos is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Macias has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Macias!

Santos is looking for a triangle but Macias pushes his legs off easily.
Don Macias has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Adao Santos is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Santos is pulling down on Macias's head. It's preventing any offense from Macias, at least for the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Don Macias showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Santos has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
