PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Timothy Mcgee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joulu Pukki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mcgee comes to the cage accompanied by McGee. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 25 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Timothy Mcgee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joulu Pukki!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mcgee works Pukki's body with a nice hook.
Mcgee shoots in for a takedown but Pukki shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Pukki shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Mcgee counters with a head kick.
Pukki fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Pukki darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Pukki is taking a breather. Mcgee says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Pukki is trying to work for a kimura but Mcgee is defending well.
Mcgee is trying to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mcgee has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pukki is working away from the top position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pukki not doing much here.
Mcgee has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Pukki looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mcgee is looking to escape.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Mcgee looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Pukki closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mcgee quickly recovers to half guard.

Pukki seems to be working for a kimura but Mcgee defends the submission attempt.
Pukki tries to pass to full mount but Mcgee defends it.
Mcgee is trying to stand up here but Pukki is controlling him well.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Pukki prevents Mcgee from standing back up.
Mcgee wants to get back to full guard but Pukki has mounted him!
Mcgee is squirming around, avoiding Pukki's attempts to control the action.
Mcgee tries to hold on but Pukki postures up.
Pukki trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Pukki is trying to control here but Mcgee has managed to regain half guard.

Pukki wants to work for an arm triangle but Mcgee is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Pukki is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mcgee is just riding it out for now. Pukki eventually gives up the hold.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pukki is trying to control the action in half guard but Mcgee is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joulu Pukki dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Mcgee works Pukki's body with a nice hook.
Pukki shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mcgee but Mcgee pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Pukki shoots in for a double leg but Mcgee sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Mcgee looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Pukki!
Pukki is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Pukki has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Pukki is trying to maintain the position but Mcgee is very close to passing his half guard.
Mcgee looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mcgee not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Mcgee looking to sit in guard and control but Pukki gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Pukki trying to control the position from guard on top but Mcgee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pukki slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Pukki staying calm.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mcgee is pushing Pukki's head away, looking to escape. Pukki manages to hold on to the position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Pukki tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Mcgee can't do much from the bottom here.

Pukki tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pukki has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Mcgee sneaks out the side door and pushes Pukki away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Pukki shoots in but no luck this time.
Timothy Mcgee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joulu Pukki.
Pukki shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mcgee but Mcgee pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mcgee tries to counter by clinching up but Pukki breaks away and moves out of range.

Mcgee gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Mcgee has hold of one of Pukki's legs. Pukki is fighting the takedown attempt but Mcgee gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Pukki is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pukki wants to take a breather but Mcgee is having none of it.
Mcgee wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mcgee trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Pukki shoots in looking for a takedown. Mcgee tries to sprawl out of it but Pukki keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mcgee manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Pukki is trying to control but can't.
Joulu Pukki has got the better of the ground game so far.

Pukki is defending against the submission attempts here by Mcgee.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mcgee thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pukki's head.

Mcgee seems to be looking for submissions.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mcgee lands a nice short elbow.
Pukki wants to control but Mcgee is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Pukki is positioning himself well to prevent Mcgee advancing to mount.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mcgee is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Pukki is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Joulu Pukki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mcgee throws a right hand that Pukki ducks under and follows up with a left that Pukki also avoids with ease.
Pukki has a takedown stuffed.
Pukki displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mcgee.
Pukki is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mcgee sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Mcgee is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Pukki wants to control the pace but Mcgee is squirming around nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Timothy Mcgee.
I think Mcgee has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
