7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lewis Rampage! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rampage has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Pellegrini finds it's way round the side to connect with Rampage's head. Pellegrini fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Rampage doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Rampage misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Pellegrini changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Pellegrini tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rampage swats him away and circles back towards the center. Pellegrini has taken the fight to the clinch.
We've been hearing reports that Pellegrini has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Pellegrini has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Rampage avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Rampage prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Salvatore Pellegrini. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pellegrini is trying to drag Rampage to the mat but Rampage just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Rampage breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pellegrini tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rampage manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Pellegrini moves to clinch but Rampage breaks away and Rampage counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Pellegrini throws a series of strikes that have Rampage backpedaling.
Salvatore Pellegrini seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rampage misses with a head kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pellegrini jabs Rampage to the body, keeping him at a distance. Rampage manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Pellegrini on his heels. He'll look to pass Pellegrini's guard now, I'm sure. Rampage must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Rampage tries to free his leg and advance position but Pellegrini is retaining full guard. Pellegrini working for a triangle but Rampage defends it easily.
Rampage content to stall in guard here. Pellegrini working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rampage doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Pellegrini is tightening it up a little... Rampage has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Rampage reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Rampage taps out! Nice BJJ there by Pellegrini!
