PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sambo Rambo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zak Drezner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drezner has chosen Cypress Hill - Checkmate as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sambo Rambo!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 15 - 4, fighting out of London, Zak Drezner!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drezner takes a jab right on the kisser.
We've been informed that Drezner has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Drezner misses with a head kick.
Horrible takedown attempt by Rambo or perhaps it was just good defense by Drezner, which made it look bad.
Rambo moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Drezner throws a one two combo.
Drezner throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
No joy there for Drezner, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Nice takedown defense from Drezner. No joy for Rambo on that attempt.
Despite the aggression on Drezner's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Drezner accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Drezner loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Drezner must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Rambo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Drezner is aware though and is defending well.

Drezner drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rambo dives on top into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rambo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Drezner can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Rambo isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Drezner stacks Rambo on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Drezner!
Drezner misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Rambo tries to improve position but can't.
Rambo is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Drezner off and has taken his back!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
You can see the frustration on Drezner's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Rambo is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Drezner is trapped and Rambo is scoring with shots to the head and body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Rambo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Rambo shoots in for a takedown but Drezner shows good takedown defense.

Drezner lands with a hook. Rambo tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rambo shoots for a takedown but Drezner saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Drezner has his foot on Rambo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rambo works his way back into a safe position though.

Rambo lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Rambo wants to control but Drezner is keeping him busy.

Drezner has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Drezner postures up.
Rambo has a closed guard, preventing Drezner from standing up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Rambo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Zak Drezner will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Drezner goes for a small jab and connects. Now Drezner goes in closer pressing the issue. Left hook, right straight! Rambo stumbles back but Drezner runs in with a huge uppercut knocking Rambo to the ground! What a finish! You have to wonder if Rambo will ever be the same after a knockout like that.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Zak Drezner!
