Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shawn Wexler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Alves might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Rob Zombie - Scum of the earth . Wexler has chosen Go To Sleep - Eminem as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fernando Alves! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
28 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Shawn Wexler! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves slips under a jab. Alves lands a front kick. No joy there for Alves, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Wexler throws a hook but Alves avoids it easily. A big left from Wexler misses. Wexler throws a lazy uppercut
and Alves counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Alves lands the left hand. Wexler moves in looking to clinch but Alves pushes him off. Alves scores with a nice strike. Alves throws a body kick that misses. Wexler drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Alves defends it well. Wexler misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Alves counters with a straight right hand. Jab, jab by Wexler - just one landing. Alves lands a nice shot that snaps Wexler's head back.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Alves lands with a good body shot. Alves looks for the body kick but Wexler saw that one coming. Wexler's jab looks to have found its range, popping Alves under the eye. Wexler has closed the distance and engaged Alves in a clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves lands a left hand.
Alves is pressed up against the cage. Wexler has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Alves down to the mat. Alves avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Alves lands a nice looking body kick. Alves avoids the body shot from Wexler.
Alves tries to sprawl but Wexler drives through with a takedown into half guard. Alves is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Wexler's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Wexler's back! Wexler trying to control the hands but Alves breaks the grip. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alves lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Alves.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Alves doesn't have the hooks in and Wexler manages to turn into his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Wexler wants to control from the top but Alves keeps moving. My spies in Gold Standard Gym inform me that Wexler has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Alves is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wexler defends well. Wexler got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alves has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wexler has managed to get both his arms back between Alves's legs - danger averted. Wexler pushes down on Alves's leg and manages to get into half guard. Alves wants to control but Wexler is keeping busy and won't allow it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wexler is keen to just control but Alves is a slippery customer. Alves is controlling Wexler's trapped leg to prevent Wexler from advancing to side control. Wexler trying to control the pace. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. The fighters are battling for position here. Alves manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Alves is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Wexler tries to roll over but Alves keeps him under control. Alves is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wexler slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Alves wants to control from the top but Wexler keeps moving. Wexler trying to control the position.
Alves is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Wexler looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Wexler is still trying to improve position. Alves slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fernando Alves dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Alves tries to close the distance and clinch but Wexler swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Alves scores with the left hand. Wexler knows he should have avoided that one. Alves looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Alves uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Wexler has time to react. Alves misses with a head kick.

Alves connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Fernando Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Wexler circles away from the clinch attempt.
A big right from Alves misses. Wexler throws a counter combo. Wexler looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Alves is fending him off so far but Wexler persists. Nope, Alves circles away and we're back to standing. Alves displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Wexler. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wexler ducks under a wild hook from Alves. Wexler keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Alves takes a swing at Wexler's ribcage but misses. It seemed like Wexler was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Wexler avoids the head kick by Alves.

That's one minute gone in the round. Alves moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Wexler swings for the body but Alves moves out of range.

Wexler looks for a takedown but Alves sprawls well. Fernando Alves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shawn Wexler. Alves drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Alves content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Alves is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Wexler can do to turn this around? Alves avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wexler is keeping the position for now. Wexler pulls Alves in close to prevent any damage. Wexler can't keep his opponent in guard - Alves advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Wexler tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Still in half guard, Alves seems content to control. Wexler is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alves lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Alves is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Fernando Alves overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Wexler wants to improve his position but Alves is controlling well.
Wexler is staying active underneath Alves, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Wexler manages to get to full guard.
Wexler is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Alves defends well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Wexler trying to control the position.
Wexler looking for subs off his back but Alves has passed one foot through into half guard.
Alves is taking a breather. Wexler says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Wexler is looking to get back to full guard here but Alves has managed to pass to side control instead. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Alves is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Wexler's shoulder. That is not cool. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fernando Alves dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Alves blocks a jab. Alves is looking to counter punch. Wexler tries to close the distance and clinch up but Alves swats him away and circles back towards the center. Wexler looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Fernando Alves is winning the standup battle so far. Alves shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wexler's guard. Wexler is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Wexler wants to sweep but no luck. Alves trying to control but Wexler is working from the bottom. Wexler working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Alves doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Alves manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wexler wants to sweep but no luck. Alves not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Wexler wants to sweep but Alves has passed to side control! Alves moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Alves trying to control the position but Wexler is working away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wexler tries to get back to half guard but can't. Alves controls the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Alves uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Wexler. Wexler on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Alves. Alves obviously looking to wear him down.
Wexler throws a lazy right hand but Alves sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Alves keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Alves wants to clinch up but Wexler keeps it at a distance. Alves connects with a good right hand that stumbles Wexler. Wexler circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Wexler dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Alves throws a quick inside leg kick. Wexler gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Wexler trying to keep a closed guard but Alves is proving a slippery customer.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alves trying to control but Wexler is working from the bottom. Wexler looking for a sweep. Not yet Wexler, not yet. Fernando Alves is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Wexler working a defensive guard here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Wexler throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Alves takes the fight into the clinch.
And that's the end of the fight! Fernando Alves showed his dominance in that final round. Well Alves has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
