PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mason Archer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Archer comes to the cage accompanied by Predator Theme. James has chosen Tuesday's Gone as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 49 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mason Archer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Tommy James!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James scores with a shot to the body.
Good leg kick by Archer there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
James pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Archer looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
James misses with a hook. Archer ducked under it nicely.

James has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Archer clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Our spies down at at Montreal Fighter's Gym (4.5* Sparring) inform us that James has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

James has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Archer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

James escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Archer gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Archer is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Archer fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt James.
Tommy James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Archer wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

James fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Archer to the ground. James is now in Archer's guard.
Archer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

James stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Archer.

James lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Archer circles away quickly and effectively.
James's corner calls for a 1-2. James obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

As James looks to move away, Archer throws a big counter combo bu James just gets out of the way.

Tommy James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

James shoots in looking for a takedown. Archer tries to sprawl out of it but James keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Archer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

James's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

James uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
James takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
