Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kazushi Sakuraba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cappy Christian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kazushi Sakuraba has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kazushi Sakuraba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cappy Christian!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Dillan Fox and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sakuraba takes a kick to the side of the head.
Christian doesn't manage to clinch there - Sakuraba circles away.
Christian tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sakuraba swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Christian closes the distance but Sakuraba moves to the side
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Christian closes the distance and clinches.
Sakuraba on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Christian.
Christian landing knees to the body.
Christian creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Sakuraba's defenses.
We've been hearing reports that Sakuraba has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Sakuraba takes an elbow to the forehead.
Sakuraba tries to pull guard but Christian won't allow it.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sakuraba escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Christian gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Christian wants to get up but he can't break Sakuraba's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sakuraba is on top in guard.

Sakuraba throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sakuraba not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Sakuraba looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Christian with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Sakuraba has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Sakuraba is looking for a kimura but Christian is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sakuraba to get the leverage.
Christian is trying to stand up here but Sakuraba is controlling him well.

Christian is staying active underneath Sakuraba, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Christian instigates a clinch.
Sakuraba jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Christian walks away with a smile on his face. Sakuraba gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Christian moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

Sakuraba shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Christian's guard.
Sakuraba stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Christian swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sakuraba in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Sakuraba pushes down on Christian's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Sakuraba uses his free foot to push down on Christian's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Christian.

Sakuraba swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Christian is now in Sakuraba's guard. A big mistake from Sakuraba there, giving up the dominant position!

Sakuraba looking for a guillotine here but Christian defends easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sakuraba is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Christian defends well.
Sakuraba is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kazushi Sakuraba will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Christian throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.

Christian clinches up with Sakuraba and pushes him back against the cage.

Christian gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Sakuraba.
Sakuraba tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sakuraba drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Christian gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kazushi Sakuraba. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Christian comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Christian lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Sakuraba tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Sakuraba tries to score a body lock takedown but Christian shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Sakuraba blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Christian is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sakuraba is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Christian is defending well.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Christian creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Christian lands a nice knee to the body.
Christian has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Sakuraba seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Christian can turn it around.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Oh Sakuraba is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Christian crunches a lovely knee into Sakuraba's ribcage.
Christian unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Christian creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Sakuraba's defenses.
Christian has Sakuraba pressed against the cage. He pushes Sakuraba back and as he springs towards him off the cage, Christian throws a beautiful elbow that sends Sakuraba crashing to the floor! Christian piles on the pressure with more strikes! Sakuraba is flailing away but he's not defending himself and the referee steps in to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cappy Christian!
Cappy Christian really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Beaver Jooce! logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
