Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Spenser Steel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jamal Mohammed! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Anthony Taglia and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steel throws a head kick that misses. Mohammed lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Left hook, right uppercut from Mohammed. Mohammed throws a wild combination but nothing lands. A nice combination there by Mohammed.
Steel has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Steel there as he acknowledges the shot. Jamal Mohammed seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Steel takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Steel drives through and clinches with Mohammed against the cage.
Mohammed wants to break free but Steel has control.
Steel is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Mohammed is trying to push Steel away but Steel has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Steel taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Steel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Mohammed lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Mohammed fails to land with a series of punches.
Mohammed lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mohammed fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Steel has managed to clinch.
Steel looking to throw knees to the head but Mohammed is blocking nicely.
Steel pulls Mohammed into guard.
Steel is breathing heavily. Mohammed wants to pass the guard but Steel is keeping the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Steel manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Mohammed looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Steel swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Steel ducks right into an uppercut from Mohammed. Mohammed with a body punch. A glancing blow. A combination from Mohammed does no damage. Steel scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Mohammed looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Mohammed is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Steel pulls his head out easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Steel looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mohammed with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Mohammed looking for submissions off his back. Mohammed actively working from the bottom here. Mohammed looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Mohammed looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Steel looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Mohammed is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Steel pulls his head out easily. Steel with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Steel's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Steel throws a shot from downtown. Mohammed moves away and avoids it. Steel with a lazy takedown attempt and Mohammed counters with a straight right hand. Mohammed showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Steel.
Mohammed throws a one two combo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jamal Mohammed dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Steel takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Mohammed tries to clinch up. Mohammed wants to clinch. Mohammed looks to land a combination. Steel sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Mohammed scores with a sloppy right hand. Steel should have avoided that one. Mohammed stalks Steel and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Steel's face. Steel staggers backwards, shaken. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Steel darts in and clinches Mohammed up against the cage. Mohammed wants to get back to striking at distance but Steel won't allow it.
Steel slowing the pace effectively. Steel has Mohammed pressed against the cage, preventing Mohammed from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Mohammed wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Steel prevents Mohammed from breaking the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steel's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Steel throws an overhand right that lands on Mohammed's shoulder, as Mohammed tries to avoid the shot. Steel lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mohammed circles away quickly and effectively. Steel showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Mohammed.

Jamal Mohammed is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Mohammed moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Steel pushes Mohammed up against the cage in a clinch. Steel successfully pulls guard.
Steel has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Mohammed drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Steel dives on top into guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Mohammed is looking for a triangle but Steel pushes his legs off easily.
Spenser Steel overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Steel controls from within his opponent's guard. Mohammed had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Steel defends it easily. Steel sitting in guard, not really doing much. Mohammed has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Mohammed is looking for a triangle but Steel pushes his legs off easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Steel stands up and waves to Mohammed to follow him. Steel moves into the clinch. Mohammed wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Steel drags the fight down to the ground.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Steel is on top in guard.
Steel postures up and lands a big shot to Mohammed's brow. Steel is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Mohammed has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Steel is looking to defend but Mohammed has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Steel! Mohammed pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Steel taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jamal Mohammed! After the fight, Jamal Mohammed was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
