Watson has chosen The Offspring - You're Gonna Go Far, Kid as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Watson!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watson misses with a hook.

It looks like Sean Watson has been cut.
James closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Watson shoots in for a takedown but James shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Watson lands a nice hook to James's body. James takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Watson is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

James has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Black Widow Gym in the buildup to the fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

James swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Watson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by James.
Sean Watson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Watson throws a sloppy head kick and James moves out of range easily.
James lands a jab to the nose.
Watson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
We've been informed that Watson has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Peter James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sean Watson.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Watson lands a nice short elbow.
Watson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks James with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Watson looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

James on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if James tries to get out of the position.
Watson is trying to control the action in half guard but James is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Watson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but James does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

James tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Watson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

A big shot lands for Watson! That's hurt James! Will he recover? Watson fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sean Watson! Sean Watson retains his heavyweight title!
In his post fight interview, Sean Watson started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
