PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between A Boy Named Sue (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Sanders (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sue's entrance music is A Boy Named Sue - Johnny Cash. A fine choice. Sue has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, A Boy Named Sue!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Sanders!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sue ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Sanders tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sue swivels and escapes.
Sanders fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Sanders gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Sanders lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Sue.
Sanders is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Sue breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sue throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sanders shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sue defends it nicely.
A Boy Named Sue has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Sanders.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanders tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sue sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sanders somewhat.

Sanders instigates a clinch.

Sanders pulls Sue into guard.

Sanders has his foot on Sue's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sue works his way back into a safe position though.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sue accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Sue is breathing heavily.
Sanders looking to control.
Sue trying to control the position from guard on top but Sanders is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've been hearing that Sue has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Sue stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sanders swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Sanders had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sue defends it easily.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Sue changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sanders looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Sanders is looking for a sweep.
Sanders sneaks back into half guard.
Sanders trying to hold on to Sue's head to control him but Sue postures up.
Sue prevents Sanders from improving his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sue wants to pass to mount but Sanders is defending the position.
Sanders is trying to stand up here but Sue is controlling him well.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Sanders is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Sanders shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sue as he avoids it easily.

Sanders shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Sue is staying active underneath Sanders, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Sanders is controlling the pace.
Sanders thows a huge punch but Sue dodges it nicely.
Sanders is looking to advance position but Sue won't allow it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sue blocking the ground and pound attempt from Sanders.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that A Boy Named Sue will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Sanders shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sue pinned against the cage. Sue gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Sanders shoots for a takedown but Sue saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Sue misses with a wild combination.
Sue pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Sanders clinches up with Sue and pushes him back against the cage.
Sue gets underhooks to prevent Sanders's takedown attempt.

Sanders appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.

Sue is trying to force a seperation but Sanders has the dominant position.
Sanders keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Sue's efforts to push away.
Sue prevents the takedown attempt.
Sue wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Sue wants to get back to striking at distance but Sanders won't allow it.
Sanders tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sue smiles and moves away.
Sanders darts in looking for a takedown but Sue gets double underhooks and turns Sanders into the cage.

Sanders has closed the distance and engaged Sue in a clinch.
Sue is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Sue fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Sanders tries to pull guard but Sue holds him up against the cage and eventually Sanders drops back down to his feet.
Sue avoids a wild elbow strike from Sanders.

Sanders manages to break the clinch.
Sue misses with a shot to the body
and Sanders counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Sanders shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sue as he jumps to the side.
Sue looks to land a left hand but Sanders moved out of range nicely.
Sue throws a body punch but Sanders moves out of range.
Sanders with the counter takedown but Sue avoids it easily.

Sue throws a nice head kick!
Sanders goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Sue misses with a body shot.
Sue keeps the fight on the outside.
Sue misses with a hook to the body
and Sanders makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Sanders lands with a slapping head kick.
Sanders shoots in but no luck this time.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Sanders.
A Boy Named Sue is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sue tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sanders sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sue somewhat.

Sanders fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sue avoids it really well and circles away.
Sue misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Sanders clinches up against the cage.

Sue breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sanders dives in for a single leg takedown but Sue sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Sanders shoots in for a takedown but Sue shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Sue tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sue keeps the fight on the outside.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sue tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Sanders is able to avoid easily.
Sanders shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sue defends it nicely.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Sanders wants to sweep but no luck.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sanders is on top in guard.

A Boy Named Sue is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Sanders wants to stand but Sue has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Sue moves out of range of the body kick.
Sanders closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sue circles away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sue throws a head kick but Sanders moves out of range.
A Boy Named Sue seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sue misses with a looping right.
Sue throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Sanders darts in and clinches Sue up against the cage.
Nice elbow from Sanders.
Sanders goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sue prevents it.
Sanders fails to pull guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Chris Sanders has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sanders throws a head punch that misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to A Boy Named Sue.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sue, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
