PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Otto Peterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin ODonnell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). ODonnell has chosen Avery Watts - "A Cut Above" as his entrance music. Otto Peterson has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Otto Peterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kevin ODonnell!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Bruno Hogan and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
ODonnell throws a series of punches but Peterson moves out of range.
Peterson tries to clinch but ODonnell moves away

and ODonnell counters with a shoot takedown. Peterson fights it but they end up in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
ODonnell sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Peterson's guard.
ODonnell content to control rather than advance.
Peterson tries to regain full guard. Instead though, ODonnell has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
ODonnell trying to control but Peterson is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
ODonnell with shots to the head and body - Peterson looks very uncomfortable down there.

ODonnell is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Peterson is surviving well by controlling ODonnell's body position as best he can.
ODonnell lands a big shot there that rocks Peterson but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.


It looks like Otto Peterson has been cut.
Peterson regains half guard.
ODonnell missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
ODonnell trying to control the action but Peterson is working from the bottom.

ODonnell is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Peterson is trying to stand back up but ODonnell is controlling him

ODonnell is taking a breather. Peterson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
ODonnell is trying to control the action in half guard but Peterson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
ODonnell frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

ODonnell goes for an armbar but Peterson turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Peterson.
ODonnell preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
ODonnell looking for a sweep. Not yet ODonnell, not yet.
Peterson cracks ODonnell with a solid left hand.

ODonnell throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
ODonnell controls Peterson momentarily but Peterson frees himself.
ODonnell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


ODonnell is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Peterson defends it well.
ODonnell stops Peterson from getting back to his feet.

ODonnell is trying to work for a kimura but Peterson is defending well.
ODonnell wants to control but Peterson is keeping him busy.

Peterson wants to get back to his feet.

ODonnell is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Peterson has managed to free his arm - good work.

ODonnell is looking for a kimura here.

ODonnell decides to stand and escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kevin ODonnell dominated that round.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A nice leg kick lands there from ODonnell.
Peterson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but ODonnell paws at him with a jab and circles away.
ODonnell is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
A slow jab from ODonnell misses its intended target.
ODonnell dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Peterson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with ODonnell, pushing him back against the cage.

Peterson breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Peterson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

ODonnell fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Peterson to the ground. ODonnell is now in Peterson's guard.
ODonnell has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
ODonnell stands up over Peterson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Peterson keeping moving, preventing ODonnell from controlling successfully.

Peterson wants to get back to his feet but ODonnell is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
ODonnell postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

ODonnell drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Peterson dives on top into guard.

Peterson is looking to stand up but ODonnell won't let him.
ODonnell wants to stand but Peterson is controlling the position.

Peterson drops back, looking for a kneebar! ODonnell looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. ODonnell looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from ODonnell!

ODonnell drives through with a takedown into guard.

ODonnell drops back, looking for a kneebar! Peterson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Peterson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Peterson!


Peterson goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, ODonnell rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Peterson's guard! Nice work there by ODonnell!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
ODonnell passes into half guard.

ODonnell seems to be working for a kimura but Peterson defends the submission attempt.

ODonnell decides to stand up.

ODonnell gets a clinch.
Peterson goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Peterson misses with a hook to the ribs.
Peterson is trying to force a seperation but ODonnell has the dominant position.

ODonnell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kevin ODonnell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

ODonnell has closed the distance and engaged Peterson in a clinch.

ODonnell breaks the clinch.
ODonnell misses with a double jab.

ODonnell pushes Peterson up against the cage in a clinch.
ODonnell lands with a light punch inside.

ODonnell manages to break the clinch.

ODonnell moves into the clinch.

ODonnell is struggling to control the position.

Kevin ODonnell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Peterson tries to clinch but ODonnell moves out of range.

ODonnell tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no ODonnell has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

ODonnell working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Peterson on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

ODonnell stands up.
Otto Peterson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

ODonnell instigates a clinch.
Peterson has ODonnell pressed against the cage.

ODonnell has hold of one of Peterson's legs. Peterson is fighting the takedown attempt but ODonnell gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
ODonnell chips away with some ground and pound.
Peterson has momentary wrist control but ODonnell slips an elbow through the middle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
ODonnell throws a big right hand that misses.
ODonnell has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

ODonnell gets to his feet. Peterson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
No joy there for ODonnell, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

ODonnell feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Peterson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Peterson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
ODonnell slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
ODonnell missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
ODonnell controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
ODonnell passes Peterson's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

ODonnell perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
ODonnell working Peterson over with strikes.
ODonnell wants to control but Peterson is keeping him busy.

ODonnell is looking for a kimura but Peterson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for ODonnell to get the leverage.
Peterson is refusing to be controlled, as ODonnell sits in half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
ODonnell thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kevin ODonnell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well ODonnell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
