Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eddy Edwards! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rapen Murder! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Viktor Lagutenko and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Murder fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Edwards looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Murder has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Edwards is landing a low percentage of strikes. Edwards shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Edwards was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Edwards wants to control but Murder is keeping him busy. Edwards knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Murder on the ground. Edwards misses with the ground and pound. Edwards lands a nice forearm strike. Edwards fails to land a wild elbow strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Edwards remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Edwards trying to control the action but Murder is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Edwards working the ground and pound but Murder is defending the strikes. Edwards throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Edwards lands a decent elbow from side control. Edwards grinds an elbow into Murder's temple. Edwards is working Murder over with some ground and pound from side control. Edwards trying to control the position but Murder is working away. Edwards working the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Edwards is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Murder knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Murder is trying to improve his position. Edwards throwing strikes but Murder manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Murder tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Murder has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Edwards tries to get back to half guard but can't. Murder throws an elbow but Edwards slips to the side and avoids it well. Edwards tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Murder wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Murder wants to control but Edwards is keeping him busy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Edwards is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Murder's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Murder is trying for a kimura here. Edwards looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Murder wins by kimura!
