PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pervis Whitaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miller has chosen New Divide as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Pervis Whitaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Charlie Miller!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Miller closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Whitaker is looking for a sweep.
Whitaker is working hard here to advance position.
Miller tries to advance to mount but Whitaker denies him.
Whitaker is trying to get back to half guard.
Whitaker throws up a few punches.
Whitaker regains half guard.
Whitaker misses with some strikes from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Whitaker thows a body shot but no joy.
Whitaker misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Pervis Whitaker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Whitaker tries to bum rush Miller with a series of wild strikes but Miller uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Whitaker tries to land a leg kick but Miller saw it coming and moves away.

Miller scores with a takedown into Whitaker's guard.
Miller tries to free his leg and advance position but Whitaker is retaining full guard.

Whitaker tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Miller stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Whitaker looks to land a combination but Miller avoids it well.
Whitaker throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Whitaker throws a series of punches but Miller avoids them all with ease.
Whitaker is breathing heavily.

Miller shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Miller showed some decent athleticism there.
Whitaker wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Miller drops an elbow to the side of Whitaker's head.
Miller is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Whitaker!
Whitaker is squirming around, avoiding Miller's attempts to control the action.
Whitaker is in all sorts of trouble here.
Miller scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Miller goes for an armbar but Whitaker turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Whitaker.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Miller can do anything to dispel that myth.
Whitaker in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Miller had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Whitaker is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Miller Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Whitaker's back instead.
Whitaker turns into Miller and is now in his guard.
Whitaker cracks Miller with a solid left hand.
Whitaker lands a couple of digs.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Whitaker keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Miller's head.

Miller has his foot on Whitaker's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Whitaker works his way back into a safe position though.
Whitaker distracts Miller with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Miller has momentary wrist control but Whitaker slips an elbow through the middle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Whitaker is pushing down on Miller's leg trying to pass to half guard. Miller is fighting to maintain full guard but Whitaker has managed to sneak the leg through.

Whitaker is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Whitaker is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Miller defends it well.
Miller works his way to full guard. Good work.
Whitaker chips away with some ground and pound.
Whitaker stands and throws Miller's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Miller is trying to get back to half guard.
Whitaker cracks Miller with a big elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Miller tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Whitaker wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Whitaker has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Miller!
Whitaker is landing with some decent strikes but Miller is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Whitaker cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Miller working to try and regain half guard.

Whitaker working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Miller looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Whitaker! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Pervis Whitaker!
