Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Timo Haara! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Edwin Kjaer! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kjaer fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kjaer ducks under a wild hook from Haara. Haara misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kjaer.
Kjaer is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Haara throws a jab when Kjaer was well out of range. Kjaer displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Haara. Haara misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kjaer.

and Kjaer counters with a left to the body. Kjaer fails in his attempt to clinch. Kjaer stuffs the takedown attempt from Haara. Haara gets slowly back to his feet. Kjaer throws out a counter right but Haara avoids it with no problem. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Haara throws an off balance right hand
and Kjaer counters with a straight right hand. Timo Haara seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A looping hook to the body misses from Haara. Kjaer does a little dance to reset his feet. Haara misses with a body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round. Kjaer tries to sprawl but Haara drives through with a takedown into half guard. Kjaer keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Haara prevents Kjaer from improving his position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kjaer is not content to let Haara control the position. Haara thows a huge punch but Kjaer dodges it nicely.
Kjaer is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Haara scores with a couple of nice shots. Haara trying to control the pace. Haara trying to control from half guard but Kjaer is working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Haara is just content to waste time from the top position. Kjaer takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Kjaer has momentary wrist control but Haara slips an elbow through the middle. Kjaer avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Haara postures up in Kjaer's guard and throws a big left but Kjaer blocks it. Haara trying to control the position from guard on top but Kjaer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Haara throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Haara misses with a shot to the body and Kjaer counters with a stiff right hand. Haara looks to score with a jab to the body but Kjaer is just out of range. Haara misses with a wild body shot. Nice defenses there by Kjaer. Haara shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Kjaer blocking the ground and pound attempt from Haara. Haara thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kjaer's head. Haara trying to control from half guard but Kjaer is working away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Haara landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Haara has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Haara sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Kjaer defending well though. Haara is keen to just control but Kjaer is a slippery customer. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Haara not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Kjaer with a body punch. A glancing blow. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Haara takes a swing at Kjaer's ribcage but misses. Haara misses with a right hand and Kjaer counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Haara swings for the body but Kjaer moves out of range.
Kjaer is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Haara with a body shot. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Timo Haara dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Kjaer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Haara swats him away and circles back towards the center. Haara goes for a double leg but Kjaer avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kjaer continues to drive forward. Kjaer throws out a counter right but Haara avoids it with no problem. Haara bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Haara scores with a couple of short elbows. Haara is looking to take a break and control but Kjaer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Haara is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kjaer is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kjaer parries the strikes from Haara easily there. Haara is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Kjaer to escape.
That's one minute gone in the round. Haara working the ground and pound but Kjaer is defending the strikes. Haara working the head with strikes. Haara lands a decent elbow from side control. Haara throws a strike aimed at the side of Kjaer's head but Kjaer avoids it well. Haara tries to score with some ground and pound. Kjaer controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Kjaer wants to control but Haara postures up. Haara is chipping away with strikes.
Haara looks up at the clock and then as Kjaer takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Haara smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Haara with the ground and pound but Kjaer regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Haara trying to control from half guard but Kjaer is working away. Haara working over Kjaer with some ground and pound. Kjaer looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Kjaer is not content to let Haara control the position. Kjaer blocking the ground and pound attempt from Haara. Haara thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kjaer's head.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Haara shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Haara was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Haara wants to control but Kjaer is keeping him busy. Haara is really struggling to control Kjaer but he's trying to hold on to the position. Haara scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Kjaer to see if he's OK.

Kjaer controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Kjaer managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Haara.

It looks like Timo Haara has been cut. Haara is looking to wear down Kjaer with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Haara. Edwin Kjaer seems to be getting the better of the standup. Haara fails with the takedown and Kjaer counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Haara looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Kjaer is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Timo Haara. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kjaer dips to his left and cracks Haara with an uppercut! Haara throws a big shot that misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Haara takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Haara is rocked! Haara fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kjaer avoids it really well and circles away. Kjaer now looks to counter with a shot at the body. Oh Haara is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Kjaer fails in his attempt to clinch. Haara seems to have got his legs back now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Haara shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kjaer but Kjaer pushes him off and we're back to square one. Haara throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kjaer sees it coming and avoids it easily. Haara fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kjaer avoids it really well and circles away. Haara avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kjaer feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Haaras jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Kjaer is looking to clinch. Haara misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kjaer.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Kjaer preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Haara wants to control from the top but Kjaer keeps moving. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Haara accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Haara postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Kjaer keeping moving, preventing Haara from controlling successfully. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Haara scoring with some ground and pound.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Kjaer bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Kjaer tries to counter with a clinch but Haara shakes him off and moves away. Kjaer lunges at Haara with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Haara's hand. Haara takes one to the chin there. Kjaer misses the shot to the body. Haara throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kjaer's waist but Kjaer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Haara off to one side. As Haara backs off Kjaer throws a huge counter combo but Haara manages to avoid it all. Kjaer stuffs the takedown. Haara shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. A big left from Haara misses. Haara looks up at the clock. Bad move! Kjaer lands a right hand from hell, dropping Haara. Kjaer pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.
