Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dusty Villarreal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jeffery Taylor!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Valeri Chadov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Taylor closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Taylor lands in his opponent's guard.
Taylor trying to control the position from guard on top but Villarreal is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Villarreal bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Taylor's guard.

Taylor is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Villarreal could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Villarreal's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Taylor wants to stand and escape but Villarreal is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Villarreal throws a strike but Taylor rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Villarreal drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Taylor dives on top into guard.

It looked like Villarreal wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Taylor tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Villarreal manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Taylor shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Villarreal scrambles and gets back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Taylor drives through with a takedown into Villarreal's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Villarreal wants to stand but Taylor is controlling the position.
Villarreal will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Villarreal manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Taylor manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Villarreal has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That was a close round but I would say that Dusty Villarreal will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Taylor closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Villarreal is positioning himself well to prevent Taylor advancing to mount.

Villarreal manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Taylor keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Villarreal drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Villarreal jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Taylor throws his legs up looking for a submission but Villarreal uses it to pass to side control.

Villarreal wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Taylor, who protects the arm well.

Villarreal looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Villarreal is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Taylor is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Villarreal thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Villarreal isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Taylor stacks Villarreal on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Taylor!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dusty Villarreal.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Villarreal, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
