Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joe Gregory (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tatsuya Mifune (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joe Gregory! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tatsuya Mifune! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yuuki Gou and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gregory slips a jab from Mifune. Mifune defending well as Gregory loads up on a big left hand. Gregory takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Gregory on the wrong end of a nice hook. Sloppy strikes from Gregory. Those never looked like landing. A countering left hand to the body from Mifune misses. Gregory tries to bum rush Mifune with a series of wild strikes but Mifune uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Mifune throws a one two combo.
It looks like Joe Gregory has been cut. Mifune swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Gregory slaps away a takedown attempt from Mifune, before circling back to the center of the mat. Mifune misses with a left hand and Gregory counters with a right hand to the body. Mifune takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mifune ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gregory moves away. Mifune throws a hook but Gregory blocks it. Gregory clobbers Mifune with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Gregory is looking to land body kicks. Mifune uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Mifune has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Mifune shoots in looking for a takedown. Gregory tries to sprawl out of it but Mifune keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gregory manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gregory displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mifune throws out the jab. Mifune avoids the body shot from Gregory.
Mifune unleashes a big counter combination but Gregory bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Jab by Gregory. Gregory misses with a few strikes there.
Gregory misses with a straight right. Tatsuya Mifune seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sloppy strikes from Mifune. Those never looked like landing. Mifune dives in and grabs Gregory's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gregory pushes down on Mifune's head and hops out. Joe Gregory has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tatsuya Mifune. Mifune shoots in for a takedown but Gregory shows good takedown defense. Gregory lands with a nice body punch. Gregory ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. A counter left hand to the body from Gregory misses its target. Gregory lands a jab to the head.
Gregory avoids the body shot from Mifune.
Mifune takes a swing at Gregory's ribcage but misses. Mifune darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mifune seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Mifune has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Mifune wants to take a breather but Gregory is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gregory wants to improve his position but Mifune is controlling well.
Mifune missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Gregory is refusing to be controlled, as Mifune sits in half guard. Gregory is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mifune's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mifune's back! Mifune trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Gregory throwing damaging strikes from the back! Mifune could be in trouble here!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gregory is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Gregory gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Gregory gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Gregory apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Mifune is rocked! Gregory drops Mifune with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Mifune! Gregory dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joe Gregory! During a confident post fight interview, Joe Gregory thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
