The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Columbo Gatti and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Defeo lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Federici looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Federici fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Defeo throws a head kick that misses.
Federici takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Defeo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Federici pinned against the cage. Federici gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Federici counters with a single leg into guard. Defeo didn't expect that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Federici stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Defeo swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Matthew Defeo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Defeo dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Federici. That did some damage!

Federici had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Defeo is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Federici Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Defeo's back instead.

Defeo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Federici on the ground.
