Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rena Garcia!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Ivan Kurochkin and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garcia shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Povetkin as he avoids it easily.

Povetkin gets a clinch.

Povetkin keeping moving, preventing Garcia from controlling successfully.
Garcia throws a big right hand that misses.
Garcia must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Garcia takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Povetkin works to advance to full mount. Garcia defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Povetkin has control of Garcia's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Garcia regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Povetkin lands a nice shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Povetkin is trying to control. Garcia wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Garcia is looking for a sweep. Povetkin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Garcia is looking to clinch but Povetkin is avoiding it.
Garcia lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Povetkin circles away quickly and effectively.
Garcia tries to close the distance and clinch up but Povetkin swats him away and circles back towards the center.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Povetkin is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Garcia defends it well.

Garcia has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Povetkin is working away from the top position though.
Povetkin wants to get back to his feet.
Garcia really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Povetkin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Garcia kicks Povetkin off and gets back to his feet.
Garcia shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Povetkin pinned against the cage. Povetkin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Povetkin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

and Povetkin counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Garcia is breathing heavily.
Garcia throws a hook to the side of Povetkin's head but Povetkin sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Garcia cracks Povetkin with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Garcia unleashes a big counter combination but Povetkin bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Garcia tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Povetkin swivels and escapes.
Garcia keeps the fight on the outside.

Garcia should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Povetkin in particular looking to stall.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Dmitri Povetkin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Povetkin has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
