Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Benny Perez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Huell Babineaux!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Anthony Taglia and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Babineaux blocks the body kick.
Babineaux feints the counter takedown.
A jab from Perez finds it's way through Babineaux's defenses.


It looks like Huell Babineaux has been cut.
Babineaux displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Perez throws out the jab.
Perez takes a swing at Babineaux's ribcage but misses.
Perez avoids the body shot from Babineaux.
Babineaux throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Babineaux keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Perez tries to bum rush Babineaux with a series of wild strikes but Babineaux uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Babineaux scores with a spinning back kick!
Babineaux throws a right and a left that both miss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Babineaux thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Perez if he has to take too many more of those.
Babineaux goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Perez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Perez throws a shot to the body.
Perez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Babineaux sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Perez throws a leg kick but Babineaux checks it.
Babineaux goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
A head kick misses from Babineaux.
Perez is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Perez lands a head kick!
Benny Perez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Babineaux throws out a leg kick but Perez moves out of range and Babineaux only half commits.
Perez connects with a body shot that sends Babineaux's belly button to the back.
Perez misses with a double jab

and Babineaux counters with a nice double leg into side control. Perez won't be happy with that.

Babineaux tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Babineaux has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Babineaux wants to lay and pray for a moment but Perez keeps working.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Perez sneaks back into half guard.
Perez tries to roll over but Babineaux keeps him under control.
Babineaux trying to control from half guard but Perez is working away.
Babineaux content to control rather than advance.

Babineaux is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Perez still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Perez has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Perez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Babineaux knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Babineaux is trying to control Perez's posture but Perez avoids it.

Perez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Babineaux, who protects the arm well.
Babineaux is trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Perez wants to control but Babineaux is keeping him busy.
Babineaux is holding Perez down, trying to stall.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Babineaux trying to remain calm as Perez controls from the top position.
Perez trying to control the position but Babineaux is working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Benny Perez will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Huell Babineaux's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Babineaux fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Babineaux ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Perez moves away.
It looked like Perez wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
A jab lands there for Perez.

Perez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Perez lands in his opponent's guard.

Babineaux is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Perez frees his head nicely. Oh but Babineaux has switched to an armbar! Perez is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Huell Babineaux!
In his post fight interview, Huell Babineaux started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
