PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Aaltink (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thiago Meida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dennis Aaltink!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Thiago Meida!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Daniel Blasius and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aaltink on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Aaltink tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Meida manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Aaltink fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Meida throws out a powerful jab.
Meida jabs at Aaltink's body.
Aaltink gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Meida keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Meida is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Meida scores with a jab. Aaltink acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Aaltink takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Meida has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Aaltink fails with the takedown
and Meida cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Meida, as that shot connected.
Aaltink tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Aaltink clinches up with Meida and pushes him back against the cage.
Meida can't break the clinch.

Aaltink's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A combination from Meida does no damage.
Aaltink seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Meida lunges at Aaltink with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Aaltink's hand.
Thiago Meida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Aaltink moves into the clinch.
Aaltink wants a takedown but no success here.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dennis Aaltink. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Aaltink keeps control of Meida as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
A frustrated look appears on Meida's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Aaltink gets control of Meida's arms and successfully pulls guard. Aaltink will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Aaltink is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Meida looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Aaltink trying to control the pace.
Meida is trying to stand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aaltink stalling.
Meida is looking to get back to is feet but Aaltink passes into side control.
Meida is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Aaltink asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Meida is letting Aaltink control him for a moment.
Meida is pushing Aaltink's head away, looking to escape. Aaltink manages to hold on to the position though.

Aaltink working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Aaltink stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Aaltink fails with the takedown
and Meida counters with a stiff right hand.
Meida displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Aaltink.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Meida! But no joy.
Aaltink throws a body shot but no joy.
Aaltink swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Meida might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Aaltink is breathing heavily.
Meida works the jab nicely.
Meida tests Aaltink's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Aaltink on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Meida throws a good cross that connects.
A jab from Meida does it's job there.
Meida lands a nice shot that snaps Aaltink's head back.
The fight stays on the outside here - Aaltink looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thiago Meida dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Meida fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Meida lands with a shot to the body.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Aaltink is defended easily by Meida.
Meida works the jab nicely.
Meida digs a good body shot into Aaltink's ribs.
Meida darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aaltink moves forwards but Meida connects with a nice, crisp jab.


Aaltink is rocked!
Aaltink misses with a low kick as Meida jumps back.

Meida lands a big uppercut and Aaltink crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Aaltink looks OK. Meida waves Aaltink back to his feet!
Oh Aaltink is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Meida closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Aaltink! Meida dives in looking to finish! Aaltink is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Thiago Meida!
