PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Reese (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luis Gracia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Reese might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Person of Interest OST - Knock Knock . I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Reese!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Luis Gracia!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Sandra Marshall and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracia doesn't manage to clinch there - Reese circles away.
Gracia moves forwards but Reese connects with a nice, crisp jab.
The fight stays on the outside here - Gracia looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Gracia's coach down at Cozad The Island was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Gracia's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Gracia is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Reese throws the left hand but Gracia avoids the punch easily.
Gracia is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Reese throws a jab but it's blocked by Gracia.
John Reese seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gracia shoots in and gets a takedown into Reese's guard.
Gracia postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracia wants to control from the top but Reese keeps moving.

Gracia thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Reese digs a right hand underneath Gracia's ribcage. Gracia let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Reese gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Gracia.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Reese creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Gracia is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Reese pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Reese lands a left hand that snaps the head of Gracia backwards.

John Reese has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luis Gracia.
Reese stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Reese pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Reese looks to land a left hand but Gracia moved out of range nicely.

Gracia drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Reese defends it well.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gracia is defended easily by Reese.

Reese is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Reese feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Gracias jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

As Reese backs off Gracia throws a huge counter combo but Reese manages to avoid it all.

John Reese showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Reese, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
