PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wyatt Foreman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zhang Wei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wei has chosen Warrior - EA as his entrance music. Wyatt Foreman has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Wyatt Foreman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Zhang Wei!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shigeki Sano and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wei shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Wei was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Foreman is pushing Wei's head away, looking to escape. Wei manages to hold on to the position though.
Foreman being controlled for a moment.
Wei wants to control for a moment but Foreman uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Wei is trying to work for a kimura but Foreman is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wei throwing shots but Foreman is blocking nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wei sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Foreman defending well though.
It looks like Wei is going to stand back up.
Foreman gets back to full guard.
Wei wants to stand and escape but instead Foreman has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.


Foreman drops back looking for a leg! Wei is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Wei manages to kick Foreman off! Foreman jumps back into Wei's guard.
Wei wants to sweep here but Foreman controlling him for the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Foreman trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Wei is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Wei trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wei working a defensive guard but Foreman manages to pass into side control anyway.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sloppy strikes there by Foreman.

Foreman is trying to get an arm triangle but Wei is defending well.

Foreman tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Foreman in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Foreman tries for a kimura but Wei is defending well.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Wei closes the distance and pushes Foreman back into the cage.

Wei's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Foreman keeps the fight on the outside.
Foreman went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Wei throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Foreman tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Wei is in Foreman's guard.
Foreman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wei's guard.

Wei looking to hit a scissor sweep but Foreman is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Zhang Wei will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Wei tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Foreman paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Wei is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Foreman's half guard.
Wei wants to stand up but Foreman manages to regain full guard.
Wei slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Wei wants to stand but Foreman is controlling his posture from full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Foreman controls Wei momentarily but Wei frees himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Wei's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Wei throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Foreman works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Wei really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Foreman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Foreman keeping moving, preventing Wei from controlling successfully.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Wei sitting in guard, not really doing much.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Wei tries to clinch but Foreman is having none of it.
Wei wants to clinch.
Wyatt Foreman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Foreman walks into a straight right hand from Wei.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Wei breaks from the clinch.

Wei closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Foreman to the mat! Foreman manages to get full guard.
Wei controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Foreman keeping moving, preventing Wei from controlling successfully.

Wei drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Foreman dives on top into guard.

Wei looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Foreman has picked Wei up and slammed him! Wei can't keep hold of the triangle and Foreman manages to pass to side control!

Foreman tries for a kimura but Wei is defending well.
Foreman lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Wei down.
Wei wants to control but Foreman postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wei holds on to Foreman's head and controls the position momentarily.
Wei is trying to control Foreman's posture but Foreman avoids it.
Wei tries to bench press Foreman off him but Foreman keeps the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Foreman tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Foreman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Wei tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zhang Wei showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Foreman avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Wei drives through with a takedown into Foreman's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Wei stands up from Foreman's guard - Wei perhaps looking for a knockout.

Wei darts in and clinches Foreman up against the cage.
Wei wants to get back to striking at distance but Foreman won't allow it.
Come on Wei - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Foreman breaks from the clinch.

Foreman gets tackled into the cage by Wei. Wei maintains the clinch.
Wei wants to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Wei is trying to trip Foreman. He has hold of a leg but Foreman is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Wei persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Wei wants to stand but Foreman has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Foreman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wei manages to get himself to full guard.

Wei is trying to keep Foreman in close.

Wei had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Foreman defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wei pulls Foreman in to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wei wants to get back to his feet but Foreman is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Wei working a defensive guard but Foreman passes into half guard.
Foreman stops Wei from getting back to his feet.

Foreman looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Wei regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Foreman postures up and lands a big shot to Wei's brow.
Foreman throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Wei utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Foreman throws a strike but Wei rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Wei wanted to stand there but Foreman had control of the position.
Wei trying to control the position from guard on top but Foreman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Wei tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Foreman paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Foreman fails with a takedown attempt.

Wyatt Foreman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Zhang Wei is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Foreman tries to keep at a distance but Wei has taken the fight into the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Zhang Wei comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Wei has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
