Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 12 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rabihia Nahas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sophia Castro Correia! The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Dirk Anderson and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Correia misses with a few strikes there.
Correia gets a clinch. Correia stops a takedown attempt from Nahas.
Correia's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Correia misses with a wild combination.
Nice combo by Correia! Oh, that's hurt him - Nahas falls to the canvas and Correia follows him into side control.
Nahas is rocked!
It looks like Rabihia Nahas has been cut. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Nahas looking for a sweep but Correia has passed into full mount! Oh no! Oh Nahas is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Nahas's coaches at Cozad The Island have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position. Correia is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent. Nahas is desperately trying to improve his position but Correia has a good base and remains in mount. Nahas seems to have got his legs back now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nahas tries to hold on but Correia pushes him away. Correia tries to stand up but Nahas grabs his leg and drags him down! Nahas is now on top, in side control. Nahas misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Nahas misses with the ground and pound. Correia dodges the ground and pound from Nahas. Correia wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Correia can do anything to dispel that myth. Nahas sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Correia is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Nahas tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Nahas throwing shots but missing, from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nahas working the ground and pound but Correia is defending the strikes. Correia avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Nahas. Nahas postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Nahas throwing strikes but Correia manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control! You can see the frustration on Nahas's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Nahas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Nahas is breathing heavily. Nahas is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Correia tries to stand but Nahas is controlling his head. Nahas manages to work his way to half guard, despite Correia's best efforts. Nahas trying to control here.
Correia wants to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Nahas is trying to stand.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Correia throws a leg kick but Nahas sees it coming and checks it nicely. Nahas tries to clinch but Correia is having none of it. Correia closes the distance and clinches. Correia wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Correia escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Correia paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Nahas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Correia rushes Nahas and presses him up against the cage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sophia Castro Correia dominated that round. The cut man is working on Rabihia Nahas's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Nahas shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Correia pinned against the cage. Correia gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Sophia Castro Correia seems to be getting the better of the standup. Correia connects with a right that clearly hurt Nahas. He's backed up against the cage with nowhere to go as Correia proceeds to tee off with vicious combinations till Nahas collapses and taps out under the pressure!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:16 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sophia Castro Correia! The defeated Rabihia Nahas had this to say: 'well I guess I lost then?'.
