Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 12 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lamont Banner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
20 - 34 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, David Trezeguet! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Banner shoots for a takedown but Trezeguet saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Banner closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Trezeguet to the mat! Trezeguet manages to get full guard. Trezeguet has a closed guard, preventing Banner from standing up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Banner is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Banner tries to stand but Trezeguet is controlling from the bottom. Banner drops back looking for a leg! Trezeguet is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Trezeguet manages to kick Banner off! Banner jumps back into Trezeguet's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Banner postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Trezeguet is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Banner, into his guard.
Trezeguet really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Banner. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Trezeguet stands up from Banner's guard - Trezeguet perhaps looking for a knockout. Banner feints and as Trezeguet raises his hands in defense, Banner changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Banner is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Banner wanted to stand there but Trezeguet had control of the position. Trezeguet looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Banner is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Trezeguet is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Trezeguet has escaped and now he's on top!
Banner is looking for a triangle but Trezeguet pushes his legs off easily.
Banner keeping full guard, as Trezeguet tries to pass. Banner had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Trezeguet defends it easily. Trezeguet trying to control the position from guard on top but Banner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Banner is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Trezeguet frees his head nicely. Oh but Banner has switched to an armbar! Trezeguet is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
