Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
20 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Bradly Danielson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kip Aragus! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A combination from Aragus does no damage. Aragus wants to clinch up but Danielson keeps it at a distance. Danielson leaves Aragus with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Danielson is looking for a counter combo. Aragus drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Danielson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Aragus postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Danielson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Aragus, into his guard. Danielson wants to stand and escape but instead Aragus has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Aragus trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Danielson is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Circle of Bosses Elite Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. Aragus pushing down on Danielson's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Danielson controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Aragus working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Danielson's thigh. Danielson counters though and makes it back to full guard. Aragus pushing down on Danielson's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Danielson won't allow Aragus to pass to mount. Danielson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Aragus on the ground. Danielson wants to get back to full guard. Aragus maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Danielson could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Aragus has cracked it and Danielson is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Aragus!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Kip Aragus! After the fight, Kip Aragus was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
