PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mathew Ridgeway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Amin Sax (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sax has chosen Infected Mushroom - Smashing The Opponent as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mathew Ridgeway!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 36 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Amin Sax!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sax chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Ridgeway can pounce on him.
Ridgeway swings for the body but Sax moves out of range.
We've been told by Ridgeway's head coaches at Slaughterhouse MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Ridgeway connects with a body shot that sends Sax's belly button to the back.
A nice leg kick lands there from Ridgeway.
Sax ducks right into an uppercut from Ridgeway.
Sax takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Sax.
Ridgeway wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Ridgeway takes the fight into the clinch.
Ridgeway works on Sax's body with a couple of short punches.
Ridgeway lands an uppercut.
Sax has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ridgeway after a bit of a struggle.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Ridgeway creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ridgeway lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Ridgeway lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Sax tries to break the clinch but Ridgeway is controlling the position.

Sax is working for takedown but Ridgeway is calmly controlling the position for now.
Mathew Ridgeway has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Amin Sax.

Ridgeway is fighting off a takedown attempt but Sax is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Ridgeway to the mat. Ridgeway regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Sax working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Sax thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Sax is looking to work some ground and pound but Ridgeway has wrist control.
Sax is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ridgeway tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ridgeway wants to hit a switch here but Sax passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Ridgeway there!

Sax lands with some strikes.
Sax trying to control but Ridgeway is having none of it.
Sax has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The referee warns Ridgeway that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Ridgeway knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sax on the ground.
Sax looking to land elbow strikes but Ridgeway uses the position to regain half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sax seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ridgeway does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Sax is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Sax looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Ridgeway avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sax.
Sax is looking to pass Ridgeway's guard but actually Ridgeway recovers to full guard.
Sax wants to control from the top but Ridgeway keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Sax gets to his feet - Ridgeway follows without any prompting.
Ridgeway stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ridgeway wants it to stay on the feet.
Sax is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Ridgeway.
Sax scores with a kick to the body.
Sax throws a head kick but Ridgeway moves out of range.
Ridgeway lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Ridgeway misses with a body shot.
Sax uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Ridgeway.
And Sax tries to counter it with a takedown but Ridgeway pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Nice cross by Ridgeway.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


The fight stays on the outside here - Ridgeway looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ridgeway looks to score with a jab to the body but Sax is just out of range.
Sax pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Sax lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
No joy there for Ridgeway, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
As Ridgeway backs off Sax throws a huge counter combo but Ridgeway manages to avoid it all.
Mathew Ridgeway is winning the standup battle so far.
A looping hook to the body misses from Ridgeway. Sax does a little dance to reset his feet.
Ridgeway paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ridgeway throws a hook but Sax avoids it easily.
Ridgeway connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Sax takes a jab right on the kisser.
Mathew Ridgeway is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Ridgeway lands a nice shot to the body.
Ridgeway is looking to wear down Sax with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Sax takes one to the side of the head.
Ridgeway connects with a body shot.

Ridgeway rushes Sax and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Ridgeway lands a left hand that snaps the head of Sax backwards.
Sax is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Ridgeway is defending well.
Sax is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Ridgeway pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Ridgeway prevents the takedown attempt.

Sax gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Ridgeway regains guard.
Amin Sax has got the better of the ground game so far.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ridgeway manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sax manages to get himself to full guard.

Sax is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ridgeway is controlling him.

Ridgeway got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sax has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ridgeway has managed to get both his arms back between Sax's legs - danger averted.

Sax working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ridgeway doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Sax is tightening it up a little... Ridgeway has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Ridgeway reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Ridgeway taps out! Nice BJJ there by Sax!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Amin Sax!
