PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Erick Leon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Loghan Duvall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Erick Leon is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Erick Leon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Loghan Duvall!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Josh West and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leon closes this distance looking for a takedown but Duvall circles away.
An inside leg kick lands from Duvall.
Duvall shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Leon pinned against the cage. Leon gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Leon.

Duvall darts in and clinches Leon up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duvall tries to pull guard but Leon won't allow it.

Leon could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Duvall wants to stand up but Leon is controlling him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Duvall darts in looking for a takedown but Leon gets double underhooks and turns Duvall into the cage.
Erick Leon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Loghan Duvall.

Leon darts in and clinches Duvall up against the cage.
Leon wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Leon looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Duvall goes for a takedown in the clinch but Leon prevents it.

A frustrated look appears on Leon's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Duvall keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Leon's efforts to push away.
Leon is trying to break the clinch but Duvall is controlling him.
Duvall digs a right hand underneath Leon's ribcage. Leon let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Leon is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Duvall tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Leon breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Leon shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Duvall as he avoids it easily.
Duvall tries to clinch up but Leon circles away and keeps his distance.
Leon seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Leon tries to land a leg kick but Duvall saw it coming and moves away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Nice sprawl there from Leon as Duvall shoots in.
No luck for Duvall with that takedown attempt.

and Leon holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Duvall lands a damaging elbow.
Duvall has Leon pressed against the cage, preventing Leon from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Leon has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Duvall has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Leon uses from the top position.

Duvall seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

That was a close round but I would say that Erick Leon will probably get the nod.

Leon is trying hard to land a takedown here. Duvall sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Duvall fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Leon avoids it really well and circles away.
Leon throws a quick counter kick to the body but Duvall avoids it.

Horrible takedown attempt by Duvall or perhaps it was just good defense by Leon, which made it look bad.

Duvall dives in and grabs Leon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Leon pushes down on Duvall's head and hops out.

Leon closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Duvall wants to control but Leon passes into side.
Duvall is trying to work for a sweep but Leon has mounted him!

Duvall is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Duvall is concentrating on defense, preventing Leon from advancing position.

Leon stays in close to Duvall's body and controls the position.
Duvall is trying to keep Leon in close.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Duvall had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Leon defends it easily.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Duvall shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Leon as he jumps to the side.
Loghan Duvall is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Duvall throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Leon's waist but Leon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Duvall off to one side.
Leon half committed to a counter leg kick.

Leon throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Duvall was covering up waiting for the punch and Leon finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Duvall shoots in and drives through. Leon sprawls well.
Leon is looking to counter the offense by Duvall and move into the clinch.
Leon tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Duvall is able to avoid easily.

Loghan Duvall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Leon shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Duvall defends it nicely.
Leon misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Duvall changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Leon tries to avoid it but Duvall manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Leon to the ground. Leon escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Erick Leon.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Leon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
