Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Octavio Saades! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lleyton Max! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Saades drops Max with a beautiful combination! Max stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Saades is looking for the KO!
It looks like Lleyton Max has been cut. A thudding body kick lands there by Saades!
Saades connects with a jab.
Max is rocked! Sloppy strikes from Max. Those never looked like landing. Max is still on wobbly legs! Can Saades finish him? Saades takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Max walks into a jab. Saades avoids the body shot from Max.
Saades tries to work over Max's front leg with a kick but Max checks it. We've been told by Saades's head coaches at Masaru Fighting Systems that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Saades closes the distance and pushes Max back into the cage. Max seems to have recovered his senses. Max breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Saades lands a nice leg kick that just misses Max's sensitive parts. A jab from Max misses. Saades feinted there with a counter leg kick. Max lands the left hand. Saades looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Saades thows a body kick. Max tries to catch it but that hurt him. Max misses with a shot to the body and Max takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Max tries to clinch up but Saades circles away and keeps his distance. A punch lands to the side of Saades 's head but he takes it in his stride. Saades moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Saades misses with a low kick as Max jumps back. Saades closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Saades throws a half hearted mid kick. Max tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Max rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Saades counters with a nice leg kick. Saades buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Saades avoids a lazy jab quite easily. No joy there for Max, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A punch combination from Max misses. Max throws a series of strikes that have Saades backpedaling.
Saades tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Saades lands a nice leg kick that just misses Max's sensitive parts. Max swings and misses with a hook to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Saades lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Both fighters circling a little - Saades finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Lleyton Max seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Saades lands with a good body shot.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Max throws a nice looking combination but Saades bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. A telegraphed right hand from Max misses the target. Saades scores with the left hand. Max knows he should have avoided that one. Saades fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Saades is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Max. Saades scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Max looks to land a combination but Saades avoids it well. Saades displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Max. Max looks winded! Nice jab there from Saades.
That has opened up Lleyton Max's cut even more. Saades connects with an inside leg kick. Saades scores with a kick to the body.
Max has his takedown stuffed and Saades counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Saades fakes the leg kick and cracks Max in the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Saades slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Saades lands with a kick to the ribs.
Saades connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Saades is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Saades bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Saades and Max are patiently standing in front of each other looking for an opening. Saades throws a head kick. It's landed, knocking Max into next week! Ooooh that was huge! Saades knows it - he's on the cage flexing is biceps. That's a bit weird considering he won by kick but whatever.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Octavio Saades! During a confident post fight interview, Octavio Saades thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
