Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Denver Santiago! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Rocha! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Mauricio Rocha and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rocha moves into range and clinches up with Santiago. Rocha tries to throw a body punch but Santiago avoids it by throwing Rocha back against the cage. Rocha breaks from the clinch.
Some wild striking there from Rocha.
Santiago tries to counter by clinching up but Rocha breaks away and moves out of range. Rocha has taken the fight to the clinch.
Rocha gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Santiago throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Rocha is looking to stall here but Santiago recovers full guard. Rocha won't allow Santiago to get back to his feet. Santiago utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rocha working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Rocha trying to control but Santiago is working from the bottom. Santiago is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Santiago wants to sweep here but Rocha controlling him for the moment. Rocha trying to control but Santiago is working from the bottom.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Rocha misses with a head kick.
Rocha scores with a punch to the head. Santiago gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Rocha misses with some punches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Santiago tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rocha smiles and moves away.
Rocha manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Santiago on his heels. He'll look to pass Santiago's guard now, I'm sure. Santiago wants to sweep here but Rocha controlling him for the moment. Santiago trying to keep a closed guard but Rocha is proving a slippery customer.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rocha accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Rocha has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Santiago wants to stand and escape but Rocha is having none of it. Rocha throwing strikes from guard but Santiago blocks nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rocha throwing strikes but missing. Rocha trying to control the position from guard on top but Santiago is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Rocha looking to sit in guard and control but Santiago gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Rocha looking for a sweep. Not yet Rocha, not yet. Santiago content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Rocha wants to control the position but Santiago says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rocha wants to control but Santiago is keeping busy and won't allow it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Santiago is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Rocha is trying to maintain the position but Santiago is very close to passing his half guard. Rocha looks winded! Santiago is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Santiago is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Santiago is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ricardo Rocha dominated that round. That's time! Santiago's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Rocha lands a big head kick that sends Santiago tumbling to the mat! Rocha takes a step backwards and waves Santiago back to his feet - he wants the finish!
It looks like Denver Santiago has been cut. Rocha darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Santiago is trying to maintain the position but Rocha is very close to passing his half guard. Santiago really is a fat lump. Santiago makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Santiago avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Santiago tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Rocha manages to circle out of the way. Rocha bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Santiago is rocked!
That's one minute gone in the round. Santiago takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Oh Santiago is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Rocha working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Rocha is breathing heavily. Rocha tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rocha has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Rocha has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Rocha feints a jab and as Santiago dips his head, Rocha unleashes a brutal head kick that catches Santiago right on the jaw! Timbeeer! Santiago falls backwards in slow motion, only propped up by the cage! Rocha smiles a psychotic smile as he stares down his unconscious opponent. That is a scary man.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Ricardo Rocha!
