Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eric Shepard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hydro Sumo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hydro Sumo will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shepard avoids a kick to the body.

and Shepard counters with a single leg into guard. Sumo didn't expect that.

Sumo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Shepard defends well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shepard got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sumo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shepard has managed to get both his arms back between Sumo's legs - danger averted.
Sumo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sumo throws an overhand right that lands on Shepard's shoulder, as Shepard tries to avoid the shot.

so Shepard counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Sumo is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Shepard was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

It looks like Eric Shepard has been cut.
Hydro Sumo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sumo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sumo just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromShepard.
That kick from Sumo tenderised Shepard's leg. Shepard is trying to keep his angry face on.

Hydro Sumo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Shepard drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Eric Shepard will probably get the nod.

Sumo lands a monster head kick that reverborates around the arena! The crowd goes wild as Shepard crumples to the floor! Sumo milks the crowd's applause and if that isn't knockout of the night, I will be very surprised!
