PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bill Hicks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roger Cantor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Roger Cantor told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bill Hicks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Roger Cantor!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hicks throws a lazy body kick
and Cantor connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Hicks shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Cantor counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Hicks takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Cantor looks to land a combination but Hicks avoids it well.
Hicks shoots in and drives through. Cantor sprawls well.
Hicks takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hicks looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Cantor!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cantor is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hicks postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Hicks is looking to take a break and control but Cantor is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hicks misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Cantor tries to bench press Hicks off him but Hicks keeps the position.
Hicks lands some shots froms side control.
Hicks looking to control but instead Cantor has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Hicks with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hicks uses his free foot to push down on Cantor's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Cantor.
Hicks can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cantor is looking to escape.
Cantor gets back to half guard.
Hicks keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Cantor looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Cantor has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Hicks. Oh but Cantor has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Hicks goes limp - he's gone! Cantor jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Roger Cantor!
Roger Cantor seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
