Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Johnny Whiteside! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hoody Hooty! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Bart Greer and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hooty tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Whiteside paws at him with a jab and circles away. Whiteside misses with a left hand and Hooty counters with a shoot takedown. Whiteside fights it but they end up in guard. Whiteside definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Hooty throws a big elbow that misses. Hooty stopping the sweep attempt from Whiteside. Whiteside keeping moving, preventing Hooty from controlling successfully. Whiteside trying to control the position here. Hooty trying to control but Whiteside is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hooty looking to sit in guard and control but Whiteside gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Whiteside slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whiteside stands up over Hooty, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Hooty is pulling down on Whiteside's head. It's preventing any offense from Whiteside, at least for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hooty working a defensive guard here.
Whiteside might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Whiteside seems content to control from guard here. That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Whiteside won't allow Hooty to get back to his feet. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Whiteside trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Hoody Hooty seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hooty tries for a takedown but Whiteside sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Whiteside lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Nice straight punches there by Whiteside. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Whiteside.
Hooty is rocked! Hooty takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Hooty is still on wobbly legs! Can Whiteside finish him? Whiteside fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Hooty looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Hooty looks winded! Whiteside is stalking Hooty. Hooty circles to his left. Keeps circling left. Bam! Straight right from Whiteside, and it's lights out! Hooty really payed the price for that rookie mistake.
