Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vasilko Nikolaevich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Saracen Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vasilko Nikolaevich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Saracen Smith!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Nikolaevich napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Nikolaevich can't do much from the bottom here.
Nikolaevich tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smith wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Nikolaevich wants to get back to his feet.
Smith lands some shots froms side control.


It looks like Vasilko Nikolaevich has been cut.
Nikolaevich wants to control but Smith postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nikolaevich parries the strikes from Smith easily there. Smith is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Nikolaevich to escape.

Smith working the strikes but Nikolaevich uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

Smith is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Nikolaevich doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Smith.

Smith is trying to work for a kimura but Nikolaevich is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith trying to control the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nikolaevich avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Smith.

Smith is working for a kimura but Nikolaevich is defending it quite comfortably.

Smith is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Smith passes to side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nikolaevich managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Smith.

Smith is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Nikolaevich knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Smith trying to control the position but Nikolaevich is working away.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nikolaevich struggling a bit here.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Nikolaevich is defending well.
Smith creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Nikolaevich sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Smith thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Smith working the strikes but Nikolaevich uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Saracen Smith dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Vasilko Nikolaevich's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nikolaevich tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Smith shoots in and gets a takedown into Nikolaevich's guard.
Nikolaevich can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Smith controls the pace.
Smith looking to sit in guard and control but Nikolaevich gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Nikolaevich won't allow Smith to sweep him here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Smith looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nikolaevich is one step ahead there.
We've been hearing that Nikolaevich has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Smith keeping full guard, as Nikolaevich tries to pass.
Smith has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Nikolaevich would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nikolaevich doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Smith is tightening it up a little... Nikolaevich has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Nikolaevich reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Nikolaevich taps out! Nice BJJ there by Smith!
