Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bernard Bear! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clayton Laurence! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bear displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Laurence throws out the jab. Laurence misses with a low kick.
Laurence uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bear. Bear looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Laurence lands a nice leg kick that just misses Bear's sensitive parts. Laurence tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. A clash of legs there as Bear blocks the low kick. Bear takes a swing at Laurence's ribcage but misses. Bear misses with a lunging right hand
and Laurence connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Bear changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Bear lands a right hook to the body.
Bernard Bear seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bear throws a lazy uppercut
and Laurence counters with an outside leg kick.
Bear pushing out the jab but it's not landing. It seemed like Laurence was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Bear misses with the combination.
Bear changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Laurence looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bear working the ground and pound from side control.
It looks like Clayton Laurence has been cut. Laurence holding on. Bear creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Bear has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Bear landing a few strikes. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bear is chipping away with strikes.
That has opened up Clayton Laurence's cut even more. Laurence is trying to control Bear's posture but Bear avoids it. Bear misses with the ground and pound. Laurence wants to control but Bear postures up. Laurence is looking for a sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bear works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Laurence is looking to reverse the position. Bear working away. Laurence is trying to escape the position but Bear is controlling the position. Bear scoring with punches from side control.
Clayton Laurence's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Clayton Laurence's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Bernard Bear! Our winner, Bernard Bear, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
