PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gaius Baltar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Moritz HANZ (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baltar's entrance music is Even Flow. A fine choice. Gaius Baltar had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gaius Baltar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Moritz HANZ!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
HANZ fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Baltar is looking to clinch but HANZ is avoiding it.

Baltar feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

HANZ is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Baltar wants to stand but HANZ is controlling his posture from full guard.
Baltar distracts HANZ with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

HANZ looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Baltar wants to control from the top but HANZ keeps moving.

Baltar drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but HANZ manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Baltar has HANZ in his guard.

Baltar wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Baltar has his foot on HANZ's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. HANZ works his way back into a safe position though.
HANZ trying to control but Baltar is working from the bottom.
Baltar can't keep his opponent in guard - HANZ advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Baltar scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but HANZ manages to mount him!
Baltar trying desperately to get to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Baltar is trying desperately to improve position.
Baltar is breathing heavily.

HANZ jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Baltar manages to avoid the submission attempt.
HANZ is looking to take a break and control but Baltar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
HANZ landing a few strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Baltar trying to control but HANZ flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Will HANZ go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

HANZ looking for the RNC.

Baltar is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it.
Gaius Baltar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Baltar fails in his attempt to clinch.
Baltar wants to clinch up but HANZ keeps it at a distance.
Baltar throws a right hand that HANZ ducks under and follows up with a left that HANZ also avoids with ease.
Baltar tries to clinch but HANZ is having none of it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Baltar gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and HANZ counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Baltar looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Baltar is looking for a sweep. HANZ is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Baltar actively working from the bottom here.
HANZ is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Baltar pushes HANZ off but HANZ dives into side control.
Baltar wants to get back to his feet but HANZ is dominant here and he's now got Baltar's back!

HANZ has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Moritz HANZ dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Baltar throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around HANZ's waist but HANZ gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Baltar off to one side.

HANZ gets a takedown into half guard.
Baltar wants to get back to full guard but HANZ has passed into side control.
Baltar is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

HANZ looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Baltar tries to lock up and control but HANZ gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Baltar can't escape the position.
HANZ forces the positional change into back control.
Baltar trying to control the hands but HANZ won't let him.
Baltar is trying to stand back up.
Baltar wants to escape the position.
Baltar looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Baltar trying to control the action but HANZ just sinks the hooks in.
Baltar rolls, trying to escape but HANZ keeps control of the position.

HANZ working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Baltar tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Baltar wants to control but HANZ is having none of it.
Baltar tries to improve his position but instead HANZ has taken his back!
I really don't envy Baltar right now.
HANZ doesn't have the hooks in and Baltar manages to turn into his guard.
HANZ is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Baltar trying to control but HANZ is working from the bottom.
Baltar wants to pass the guard but HANZ is keeping the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
HANZ lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Baltar!
Baltar slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
HANZ missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Baltar tries to get to full guard but HANZ has control of the leg.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
HANZ slows the pace down in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Moritz HANZ showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Baltar is looking to clinch.

HANZ clinches up with Baltar and pushes him back against the cage.

Baltar pulls HANZ into guard.

Baltar looking for a guillotine here but HANZ defends easily.
Baltar can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as HANZ controls the pace.
Baltar has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but HANZ has passed into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Baltar tries to improve position but can't.

HANZ has control of an arm but Baltar manages to advance to HANZ's back!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
HANZ is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Baltar pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. HANZ is keeping the position for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
HANZ shoots in and drives through. Baltar sprawls well.
Baltar has his takedown stuffed

and HANZ counters with a nice double leg into side control. Baltar won't be happy with that.
HANZ gets to mount! Baltar was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
HANZ tries to control but Baltar wriggling away.

HANZ working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Baltar looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by HANZ! Submission of the night perhaps?
