PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Freeman Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Goss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Freeman Henderson has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Freeman Henderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alex Goss!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Joseph Jones and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Goss drives through with a takedown into guard.
Goss postures up in Henderson's guard and throws a big left but Henderson blocks it.
Henderson keeping moving, preventing Goss from controlling successfully.
Henderson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Goss throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Henderson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Goss stands up over Henderson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Henderson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Goss.
Goss trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Goss wants to control from the top but Henderson keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Goss chips away with some ground and pound.
Goss won't allow Henderson to get back to his feet.
Henderson wants to improve his position but instead Goss has moved into half guard.
Goss thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Henderson's head.

Goss looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Henderson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Goss stands up and beckons Henderson to join him on the feet.
Goss swats away the attempt to clinch by Henderson.
Henderson tries to clinch but Goss moves out of range.
Henderson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Henderson tries a head kick but it misses.
Henderson sets himself, and Goss steps forward looking for the clinch! Henderson avoids it this time.

Henderson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Henderson tries to advance to mount but Goss denies him.
Henderson trying to control the position but Goss is working away.

Goss is holding Henderson down, trying to stall.
Goss has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Goss tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Henderson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Goss manages to get back to half guard.
Goss manages to get to full guard.
Henderson postures up.

Goss manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Henderson manages to get himself to full guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Henderson is on top in guard.


Goss has his foot on Henderson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Henderson works his way back into a safe position though.

Goss manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Henderson manages to get himself to full guard.

Goss postures up in Henderson's guard and throws a big left but Henderson blocks it.
Goss wants to pass the guard but Henderson is keeping the position.
Henderson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Goss got a little sloppy there for a moment and Henderson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Goss has managed to get both his arms back between Henderson's legs - danger averted.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Goss throws a big right hand that misses.
Henderson is trying to control the position but Goss postures up.
Goss missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Goss dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Goss stuffs the takedown attempt from Henderson. Henderson gets slowly back to his feet.
Goss appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Henderson is looking to clinch but Goss is avoiding it.

Henderson forces Goss back against the cage and clinches.

Goss manages to break the clinch.
Goss has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Henderson wants to clinch but Goss slips to the side

and Goss counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Goss throwing shots but Henderson is blocking nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Henderson trying to hold on to Goss's head to control him but Goss postures up.

Henderson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Goss on the ground.

Goss lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Goss has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Henderson looking for a guillotine here but Goss defends easily.
Henderson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Goss's guard.

Henderson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Goss wants to control the position but Henderson says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Goss regains full guard. Nicely done.

Henderson rushes Goss and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Henderson is looking to control Goss's arms but Goss gets an underhook and turns him. Now Henderson has his back to the cage.

Goss has Henderson pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Goss pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Henderson tumbling to the mat - Goss dives into Henderson's guard.
Goss wants to control from the top but Henderson keeps moving.
Goss missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Henderson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Goss is aware though and is defending well.
Goss showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Goss with a flurry of punches that miss.
Goss loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Henderson throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Henderson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Goss's waist but Goss gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Henderson off to one side.

Henderson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Goss slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Goss is looking to cinch up a triangle. Henderson throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Goss's body to avoid the submission. Goss has instead reached around Henderson's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Goss arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
