The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monroe has taken the fight to the clinch.
Phaan missing with knees to the body.
Phaan is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Monroe is defending well for now.

Monroe throws a punch but it's blocked by Phaan.
Phaan lands a damaging elbow.
It looks like Thad Monroe has been cut.
Our sources have told us that Phaan has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.
Phaan breaks from the clinch.
Phaan tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Monroe closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.

Phaan throws a leg kick but Monroe sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Phaan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Monroe, pushing him back against the ropes.
A frustrated look appears on Phaan's face as he tries to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Monroe wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Phaan has him pressed against the ropes.
Monroe misses with a short punch on the inside.

Phaan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Monroe told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Phaan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Phaan throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Phaan cracks Monroe with a perfect right hand that drops him to the mat! Monroe is sitting up but I can't see if he's OK from my position. The referee's count has reached 5,6,7 and Monroe is still not up. Can he make it? 8,9,10! He's out! Monroe could not beat the count!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Peter Phaan!
