PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kj Barakus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dennis Oppelaar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dennis Oppelaar told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dennis Oppelaar!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oppelaar falls off balance throwing a combination

and Barakus counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Barakus.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Barakus takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

It looks like Kj Barakus has been cut.
Oppelaar throws a right hand that Barakus ducks under and follows up with a left that Barakus also avoids with ease.
Barakus is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Oppelaar.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Barakus counters with a single leg into guard. Oppelaar didn't expect that.

Oppelaar has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Barakus is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Oppelaar.

Oppelaar manages to work his way to half guard, despite Barakus's best efforts.

Oppelaar throws an elbow that misses. Barakus uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Oppelaar's guard. Nice move by Barakus!

Oppelaar looking to sit in guard and control but Barakus gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Oppelaar has his foot on Barakus's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Barakus works his way back into a safe position though.

That was a close round but I would say that Kj Barakus will probably get the nod.

Barakus takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Barakus takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Oppelaar's corner calls for a 1-2. Oppelaar obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Oppelaar working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Barakus is refusing to be controlled, as Oppelaar sits in half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Oppelaar lands with a hook. Barakus tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Oppelaar misses with a few strikes there.
Barakus shoots in looking for a takedown but Oppelaar manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Barakus's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Oppelaar throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Oppelaar's corner calls for a 1-2. Oppelaar obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Dennis Oppelaar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Oppelaar connects with a right that clearly hurt Barakus. He's backed up against the cage with nowhere to go as Oppelaar proceeds to tee off with vicious combinations till Barakus collapses and taps out under the pressure!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dennis Oppelaar!
A relieved looking Dennis Oppelaar thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
