Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chester Gilliam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chester Gilliam! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Paul! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paul misses with a leg kick and Gilliam counters with a lovely straight right hand! Gilliam gets caught napping as Paul dives in and scores a takedown. Gilliam manages to retain guard. Gilliam working for a triangle but Paul defends it easily.
Gilliam knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Paul on the ground. Paul loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Paul drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Gilliam dives on top into guard.
Gilliam could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Gilliam postures up and lands a big shot to Paul's brow. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Paul escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gilliam gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Paul had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gilliam defends it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paul working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gilliam. Paul is looking for a triangle but Gilliam pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Paul has his foot on Gilliam's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gilliam works his way back into a safe position though. Gilliam wants to get up but he can't break Paul's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Paul is on top in guard.
Gilliam wants to sweep here but Paul controlling him for the moment. Paul in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Paul lands a couple of digs. Gilliam has his foot on Paul's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Paul works his way back into a safe position though. Paul won't allow Gilliam to sweep him here. Paul lands a couple of elbows.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gilliam has momentary wrist control but Paul slips an elbow through the middle. Paul scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Gilliam working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Paul doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Paul manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Paul throws a big right hand that misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paul lands a couple of elbows. Gilliam might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Gilliam trying to control the position.
Paul makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Paul scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Gilliam is looking to stand up but Paul isn't so interested in that idea. Paul working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Gilliam's head. Gilliam will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Paul's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Paul landing with the ground and pound. Paul working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Gilliam's head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Paul missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Paul with a nice head shot there.
Gilliam is rocked! Paul gets to his feet and stands over Gilliam, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Gilliam felt that one! Paul unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Gilliam from any more punishment!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Paul!
