PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nirman Hassan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz's entrance music is Boombastic (Mr Lover Lover) by Shaggy. A fine choice. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Fernando Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Nirman Hassan!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Radbod Blank and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hassan pushes Diaz up against the cage in a clinch.
Hassan is trying to push Diaz away but Diaz has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Hassan is trying to force a seperation but Diaz has the dominant position.
Hassan wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Diaz is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Hassan to keep the fight standing.
Hassan tries to circle away but Diaz has him pinned against the cage.

Hassan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Diaz looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Hassan scores with a nice right hand.

Hassan instigates a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz throws a knee to the head but misses.
Diaz fails to pull guard.

Hassan manages to break the clinch.
Hassan tries to close the distance and clinch but Diaz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Diaz closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hassan circles away.
Hassan is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fernando Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Diaz misses with a wild body shot.
Diaz uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Hassan.
Hassan keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Nirman Hassan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hassan doesn't manage to clinch there - Diaz circles away.
Diaz feinted with a counter takedown.
Hassan takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Hassan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Diaz swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Diaz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Hassan is trying to stand up here but Diaz is controlling him well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hassan tries to get to full guard but Diaz has control of the leg.
Hassan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Diaz is working away from the top position though.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Diaz takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Diaz's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hassan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Diaz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Diaz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hassan won't be happy with that.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diaz passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Hassan!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hassan can do anything to dispel that myth.
Diaz takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Hassan is trying to stand back up.
Hassan is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Diaz.

Diaz is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Hassan has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hassan trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Hassan is trying to get back to his feet but Diaz has full control of the position and if anything, Hassan has just worked his way into a worse spot.
What can Hassan do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Hassan is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Hassan is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Diaz.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Hassan clinches up with Diaz and pushes him back against the cage.
Hassan trying to stall but Diaz improves his position.
Diaz is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Diaz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hassan smiles and moves away.
Hassan doesn't manage to clinch there - Diaz circles away.
Diaz drops down looking for a counter takedown but Hassan sprawls and moves away.
Hassan throws a right and a left that both miss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hassan gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

We've been informed that Hassan has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Hassan is in all sorts of trouble here.
Diaz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hassan wants to hold on but Diaz pushes him away.

Diaz working for a submission but Hassan is keeping him at bay.
Diaz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hassan can do to turn this around?

Hassan tries to buck Diaz off so he can stand up but Diaz has got his back now - this could be big trouble! He's slapped on a rear naked choke that looks really tight! Hassan falls backwards, slamming Diaz to the mat but Diaz holds on tight! Hassan is forced to tap and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Fernando Diaz!
After the fight, Fernando Diaz was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
