Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Yuba Boulwiha! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marco Buhler! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Ryoma Takatsuka and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boulwiha tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Buhler defends well and Boulwiha ends up having to push Buhler into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Buhler fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Boulwiha will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Buhler throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Boulwiha has been working on his balance at The Dojo, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Buhler. Boulwiha fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Buhler sprawls well initially but Boulwiha persists and gets the takedown into half guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Buhler can do anything to dispel that myth. Boulwiha missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Buhler wants to control but Boulwiha is keeping busy and won't allow it. Boulwiha trying to control the action but Buhler is working from the bottom. Buhler trying to hold on to Boulwiha's head to control him but Boulwiha postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Boulwiha is taking a breather. Buhler says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Boulwiha wants to work for an arm triangle but Buhler is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Buhler wants to control but Boulwiha is keeping busy.
Boulwiha missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Boulwiha landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Buhler has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Boulwiha is working away from the top position though. Boulwiha seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Buhler does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Boulwiha working the head and body with strikes. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boulwiha wants to pass the guard but Buhler is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Boulwiha is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Boulwiha seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Buhler is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Yuba Boulwiha! Yuba Boulwiha tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
