Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Saan Shlamel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Deimon Fjornson! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, David Hoff and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fjornson gets a takedown into half guard. Shlamel is looking for a sweep. Fjornson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Fjornson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Shlamel! Fjornson blocks Shlamel's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Fjornson throws some wild stikes that Shlamel manages to avoid easily.
Shlamel on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Shlamel tries to get out of the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fjornson misses with some ground and pound and Shlamel recovers position to half guard. Shlamel wants to improve his position but Fjornson is controlling well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fjornson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Shlamel wants to control but Fjornson is keeping busy and won't allow it. Shlamel is looking to improve his position.
Shlamel controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Shlamel wants to improve his position but Fjornson is controlling well.
Fjornson is looking to take a break and control but Shlamel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Shlamel has his hands clasped together around Fjornson's back. He's all about the action. Fjornson is trying to control. Shlamel wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Shlamel is looking for a sweep. Fjornson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Shlamel lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
It looks like Deimon Fjornson has been cut. Fjornson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Shlamel pinned against the cage. Shlamel gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shlamel slaps away a takedown attempt from Fjornson, before circling back to the center of the mat. Fjornson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Shlamel is fending him off so far but Fjornson persists. Nope, Shlamel circles away and we're back to standing. Saan Shlamel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Deimon Fjornson. Shlamel lands a leg kick that knocks Fjornson off balance momentarily. Fjornson shoots in for a takedown but Shlamel shows good takedown defense. Shlamel closes the distance and lands a one-two. Shlamel looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Shlamel seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. Shlamel scoring well with a low kick there.
Shlamel cracks Fjornson with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Fjornson moves to clinch but Shlamel breaks away and Shlamel counters with a lovely shot to the body. Fjornson on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. A slapping leg kick lands for Shlamel.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Shlamel connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Fjornson's hands. Fjornson has his takedown stuffed and Shlamel counters with a left to the body. Fjornson looks winded!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shlamel paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Fjornson takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Shlamel fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Fjornson. Shlamel scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Shlamel lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Fjornson backs up against the cage.
Shlamel connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Fjornson! He's out on his feet! Shlamel rushes in and drops Fjornson with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!
